DON'T GO NAKED...unless you're a hot chick

Wow, there is a lot of heat in this thread over a simply, every day, accidental occurrence! Stuff like this happens a lot to me. I think the fact that your phone broke in the way it did is very a-typical though. I cannot stand to cover my phones (just my personal preference)! That being said, the phone slid out of my pocket the other day and landed face first on the concrete! I wanted to cry and scream at the same time! When I picked it up I was expecting to see what happened to you, but was amazed to see... nothing! Not a single scratch! I did get a scuff on the metal band around the screen, but that's ok. I cannot tolerate scratches on the screen, so I was happy with how the gorilla glass 2 handled my fall. I have great sympathy and empathy for you though, my friend. I couldn't bare to see my precious in such a condition! :'(

I've never used more than a screen protector for previous devices. But, because this phone is so slick it's hard for my fingers to get traction on the back and everytime I reach my thumb across the keyboard to a key on the far left it slides right out of my hand. That's the reason I got a case. Going through hell to get the damn thing and knowing it's currently hard to replace is the reason I went over board and got the otterbox defender. I was looking to get the commuter, but couldn't find one.

That being said, I do occasionally let her rock the birthday suit when I got her home alone with a few candles lit... Good God we're weird.

That makes for a rough day. But it looks like it still works, is it just surface damage to the glass?

And just as a pint of comparison, I dropped my OG Ego on cobblestone from about 4 feet when I missed my jacket pocket, it landed on the bottom edge, dented the plastic, and chipped the glass slightly. It was so minor I didn't even bother reporting it. I'd call them very durable for the most part.

It is stories like this that convince me that buying accessories BEFORE buying a phone is best. I haven't pulled the trigger yet on the Evo LTE... I'm waiting for the SIII event next week. Although I do have, in hand, the Evo LTE pouch I'd want:

HTC PO S650 Slip Pouch for HTC One X

So yes, I do plan on going naked... whenever the phone isn't in the pouch. These kind of stories also make me wonder because I was seriously debating going with no TEP for the first time, given Sprint's recent prorated changes to the program.

Naked (when not in the pouch) and no TEP is starting to sound like a bad idea. lol

I haven't bit the LTE bullet yet either but when I do it WILL have a case. I still have my EVO 4G which has an Otter Box case on it. I like the Otter Box cases, yes they are bulky but to me the display and what you see there is far more pleasing to look at than the outside. Also I have never carried the insurance or damaged my phone, just been lucky I guess. So bottom line if I do get the EVO4GLTE I will have an Otter Box case in hand before I get the phone.

Just my 2 Cents worth.

That sucks. I've never really been big on cases but two things bothered me about this phone. I'm not a fan of the glossy top and the phone actually feels too thin and light to me. When holding it in my hand - it was like there wasnt enough substance to grip.

I bought the Diztronic case for $9 and the thing feels awesome and I honestly think it makes the phone look better. It is a minimal protection case but is very sleek and adds nothing unwanted to the phone in form or function.

I'm not really big on phone cases but I bought the Diztronic and would recommend it 100%
My phone actually looks and FEELS better in my hand with this case on.

My heart goes out to you bro, the pictures are absolutely heartbreaking. I've been on the fence about getting a case just because of how sleek the phone is, this certainly helps to tip the scales a bit. I hope you get your new one soon, gl.

Hah... sorry for the double post up there. Makes me look like I work for Diztronic or something. My first post didn't show up immediately and I thought it didn't take.

I'm surprised that people actually use sprints insurance. I always buy my phones with Best Buy Mobile simply because of the insurance they offer (the buy back program is pretty nice too). $10 a month for unlimited claims and no deductible. Covers just about everything except theft and extensive water damage.
I dropped my droid 3 in the toilet last year (Lol, basically I had the phone in my jacket pocket and as I was lifting the toilet seat up it fell out and plopped right into the thankfully clean toilet) and they covered it with no problem.Took about two business days for the new phone to come in.

The best part about free unlimited claims is being able to let your phone stay naked without any real worries. If you wanted to sell the phone you could always "accidentally" take a hammer to it and get a replacement ;D

That sucks.

I went naked with the og Evo from a month after it released, screen is still scratch free. Corners of the phone body are dinged up, but all in all fairly sound, especially for having it cartwheel across concrete a time or two.

I got the LTE from preorder, and have been keeping it in a Oakley microfiber cloth when at work (not in pocket). I noticed a few days ago that somehow the screen has been scratched. Very small in width, ~1/2 inch in length up near the HTC logo going towards the bottom of the screen. No clue where it came from or when it happened. also not real concerned about it since you can't really see it unless the screen has a white background or you look for it.

Just annoyed that something with a 'better scratch resistant' glass for screen got scratched so easily, when the og went through hell without a scratch on it.

My Evo 4G was cased up day 1, with my 3D I decided to go naked. My final judgment? Case it is, I just fine more pros with case then caseless

Sent from my HTC .....oh wait its stuck at customs

I drop my phone at least once a month. No case. Started with my HTC 3125, then the HTC Fuze, then the OG Evo. Never a problem, but I don't live with tile (carpet & bamboo floors). I have, however, dropped each phone onto concrete and was lucky enough to not have it hit on a corner. I'm hoping my luck continues with the new phone, once purchased.

Love HTC's build.

I never buy insurance on my phones if I know it comes with a manufacturers warranty. Kind of unnecessary.

That picture convinced me to go to bb mobile and get the insurance that I didn't get when I preordered it. That picture's just depressing.
