Don't use ROM Manager for the Optimus V!

I have seen a flurry of people lately recommending ROM manager to install IHO, on "how can I install cm7 threads" and the like. I don't know why, but I (and I'm sure others) am getting weary of telling them to use the official thread. So this is the official " Don't use ROM Manager for the Optimus V" thread. The reason not to use it is the recovery version doesn't work on our phones, and shows a black screen on newer phones. Also the IHO roms in it are not officially posted by their respective creators. So that is why to not use ROM Manager.

Yes. I wish I had read something like this before I tried installing a custom rom with ROM Manager. Took me a solid day of being in way over my head trying to correct the g.d. black screen. The good news is that it is fixable if you've already screwed yourself!

ive been using rom manager from the beginning and have never had a problem. ive flashed every possible iho rom possible, plus 1.6 & 1.7 harmonias as well as some themed honeycomb and ics roms...i dont understand how people can have so many issues with it :/

The biggest of the issues I know is that the recovery supplied doesn't support the new screens. Other then that it's a moral issue as jerry said the devs didn't put their roms on on there. Someone else did.

This time, yes, but what about the next time when someone puts one on there with a virus.

I use rom manager i think... well the clockworkmod recovery which i thought came with Rom manager but ive never actually opened the rom manager app. i only use roms that i have downloaded off of this website, like the posts for Jerry's IHO and just now, the Harmonia, (no hard feelings Jerry, just curious ^.^)

I think i actually just figured out my own confusion, i forgot there was a difference between rom manager and clockwork recovery... (because i think in order to do a backup through rom manager it makes you download clockwork or something :s)

Agreed ....using root explorer, my nandroid back ups are under the folder "clockwork".
I initially used Rom manager and did a flash using in and was stuck in a boot loop (noobie days) thank god they made a downloadable zip which somehow flashed a new recovery (xinonia...) and fixed my boot loop.
Weird ....
