"Double tap the Google Assistant Button" on Pixel 6?

[Android Central Question]

If I have Assistant turned on, it tells me I receive a text message and to "tap the Google Assistant button to hear". However, Pixel 6 does not have Google Assistant button, right? This seems like a pretty wild oversight.

Holding the power button opens Assistant but does not read the text. I haven't tried setting the rear phone double-tap to open Assistant yet, but I would really like to keep that for opening the notification drawer akin to Pixel 3's rear fingerprint drag-down feature.

Any ideas?

Welcome to Android Central! Have you tried just saying "Hey Google, show me my messages"? Google Assistant should then prompt you if you want to hear them.
