Downside from buying from a private party?

Hi, other than the normal risks of buying a phone from a private party from swappa what is the down side?

I preordered a pixel but that won't come until mid November. But after seeing in stores I want an XL, and hate waiting until December.

If the person didn't buy device protection can I add this if I am the first to activate the phone?

No. No warranty what so ever.

If you pay with PayPal you're protected for 6 months as well. So if something crazy happens and the phone gets blacklisted or something you can file a PayPal dispute and get your money back.
