Doze feature/Bugs!

Hello All!

So I think I've come across something of importance with the new doze feature 6.0.

So I've noticed weird things with the 6P like podcasts stuttering every 30 or so minutes, Google Play movies stop buffering halfway through, and in some cases Google Play music barely even playing. I think this may have to do with the doze feature. You would think that Google would think of this before launching the OS but who knows, maybe I'm wrong.

My theory is that when I am watching Netflix via Chromecast for example, I find that Netflix has stopped and tried to load or has stuttered as if the movie hasn't buffered. Since does puts the apps to "sleep" I believe this is effecting the performance of the apps I am using while my device is sitting still on my desk or table in my living room. The system wants to put the apps in doze, and does it successfully, but the apps do not want to be in doze and causes these issues I described above.

Has anyone else experienced these issues? If so, what do you think it maybe? Or is this simply a buggy OS that will inevitably will have patches that will fix these issues?

Also take note, that I have already replaced the device through my cellular carrier and the device is experiencing identical issues. That is why I think this maybe some sort of bug that will be taken care of in future updates.

Send me your thoughts Android lovers!

Haven't experienced any of these issues. I have streamed at least a couple hours of play music

interesting. I've streamed music with no problems at all., but not movies. I'll be listening to a podcast tmrw evening so I'll try and remember to check back with you.

Did you contact Google?

Nah I haven't contacted Google regarding this cause honestly I feel as if Google will not have an opinion or they will tell me to wipe the device or exchange it again.

I've noticed that the WiFi signal and cellular signal have both been fluctuating in strength. Now I compared this to my Note 5, I know this is probably impossible to narrow down as there are so many factors in play, cell towers, internet bandwidth, coverage etc. And who knows, my Nexus could be showing me the true signal and my Note was lying lol.

I have not experienced dropped calls, not once, and this, again, had been happening on two different phones. So I'm chalking it up to bring OS related or showing me there true signal. For example, I'm getting LTE in rural areas where I never had LTE before, and a strong signal.

Ever since I turned off certain apps from the doze feature I haven't seen a hiccup in Netflix, I watched hours of it tonight and not one issue.

Follow up with me and let me know, I'd appreciate it!

Well I am kind of confused here .. You said via your Chromecast. That would mean the Netflix app being put to sleep shouldn't really have any issue at all. When you Chromcast your phone is simply a remote and the Chromecast itself takes over the streaming so it shouldn't depend on it.

As I understand it, Doze doesn't come into play until the phone is completely idle for a certain amount of time. That means that if there are apps running actively, they will prevent Doze from activating. There are even reports of people having issues getting their device into Doze, but most seem to be OK after a reboot. Which means that an app was keeping the device from sleeping and entering Doze.

Not very experienced in his Chromecast works, are you saying that I could shut down my phone while Chromecast if running Netflix and it works effect the stream?

ditto here, I've been chromecasting movies and TV shows for hours at a time and haven't run into any problems with Doze interfering. I also drive with streaming podcasts and radio.

I would think so (I never tried a shut down) because your phone just becomes a remote basically. The Chromecast itself is running the entire stream. When you tell it to play something it loads up Netflix, goes out and connects, and then streams the video itself. Your phone just sits and only sends commands like volume up/down or pause/play/stop.

I've run into issues of taking my phone off charge and going to bed. After picking up my phone after the alarm goes off I will notice that it is 30-40% down. I'll check the battery statistics and only thing will say phone idle. It will say phone idle kept the cpu awake the time. Any ideas?

Hard reset the phone. Turn the phone off. Then hold down the power button and volume down button. This will load into recovery mode. Once you see the little Android guy with "no command" underneath, hold down the power button and push the volume up button. Once the next screen shows up use the volume buttons to navigate to wipe and reset factory settings. This will wipe the bugs and issues out of your phone. Make sure that your stuff is backed up before you complete this.

I did this and everything runs great now. Let me know how it goes!

What cellular carrier is selling the 6p? I thought you could only buy direct from Huwei or Google.
