I call upon my fellow droid users. One of the guys I work with wants to swap phones with me. My Droid 1 for his Droid X. Is this a good deal? What am I losing if anything? He said he wants a first droid cause it's more capable along the mod and hack route. Should I do it? If so, will doing a factory reset on my phone clear everything? Have a few pics and files I don't want others to get their hands on. Thanks in advance for the help.

You are losing a slide out keyboard & an unlocked bootloader...everything else is a gain for you. You can still root & ROM the Droid X though...ROMs are just built on the existing Froyo & Gingerbread kernels, not made from scratch.

As far as the pics & files you want to keep, just keep your microSD card or back up the contents onto a PC before formatting it. Yes, doing a factory reset will clear everything off the phone. Since you have modded your phone though, you may want to return it back to stock 2.2.1 (or whatever the OG Droid is officially on now) if your coworker wants you to do that.

I don't really care about the bootloader. I'll go for it then. As far as it being rooted, his is too so I don't need to get it back to stock. Thanks for the opinion and info.

Id go for it in a heartbeat! My brother has your phone and Ive used both his and mine and I like the X wayyyy better.

Wins for you. Faster CPU, kick ass screen.

Lose the slide out which I never used on mine. Love the X

In addition to the factory reset, make sure to format (or just remove/replace) the SD card.

I'm probably just gonna take out the sd card. Thanks for the quick response everyone. Can't wait to mess around with it on Wednesday.

Yeah, plus this should hold me over till the Bionic.

Yeah, I didn't even think about that! You are basically getting an upgrade without having to use yours from VZW. When something you feel worthy of an upgrade from the X comes available...you can do that & sell the X on E-bay/Craigslist.

Yep :D So far the Thunderbolt has been a let down, let's see if Bionic or a Galaxy S2 phone will amaze me.

The Droid X is a plus.....

Why do you classify the TB a let down? Other than battery I hear the device is nice, I have played with it and the Sense is nice (I always loved it), the camera is clear and it runs nice and smooth. The screen is also pretty clear.

No dual core processor, battery life sucks, it looks kinda bad IMO, but I admit it takes nice, crisp pictures. In the end though, not worth a two year contract when you got much beefier ones coming throughout the year.

One of my best friends has a Droid and he definitely envies my DroidX. He never uses the slideout keyboard.

Dual Core Processor doesn't concern me because I use mine heavily and haven't had any issues with not having enough power, I really are thinking this infatuation with more and more power on a mobile device is getting out there and believing the power usages being good on the battery... What Power Smartphone has any good battery life, besides the 4G connection is the reason for the weak battery life, if the device is always scanning for a network this will of course pull more power and 4G isn't around in enough areas yet? Plus the device is a phone and what do a user really need with is being on the device that requires a dual core processor.

As for the look I think the design is very smooth IMO and is build very sturdy ans solid, all the newer device cases look more plastic and not much of a solid design.
