DROID 2.1 Update thread.

Has anybody tried the 2.0.1 .sbf on this. I was wanting to try 2.1ota, but was waiting to see if the .sbf worked because i wanted to make sure i could get back to root.

I have seen in my hunt this morning that many have used it for various reasons, and it appeared to have worked.

I think so, I tried it, but it didn't seem to work as flawlessly as I thought it would

I went to the Corporate account, added my yahoo, do I put imap? I assume so.. tried to do it and now it says it cannot connect to the server.


Figured out how. Went to Email, clicked Menu and Add accounts, then you do the manual setup and set it up this way. It doesnt' add a new icon, but it's basically a separate account within the Email app. =(

if you have rooted, and flashed another ROM you wont receive the OTA likely. You have installed a custom recovery probably, most of which block that update from coming to you. In order for you to update, you would have to revert to stock and update.

i wasn't asking about actually getting the OTA -- I have already downloaded the manual update.zip, and was thinking about doing that. Not really sure why, I think it's just to have something else to do, as I think it'd be a downgrade for me.

I think I'm going to hold off though, I leave for a long vacation on Friday and would really like to keep my Wifi tethering for that.

yes, lots of the comments on that one say that it isnt functioning properly with ESE81.

Used market to install Google earth, and had no issues after manual update, but haven't tried other market apps

Thanks everyone for your help... tried to do it again and it still has that error message. It occurs RIGHT after I hit the VOL UP and Camera button, then I scroll down and get no response from any of the choices except when i hit the power button again, it reboots the phone...

Thanks for checking. According to ruqqq the developer, it didn't work before because the droid was missing some 2.1 files. While it does work on roms built from source on or Droids. I was hoping that it would work for everyone now. I'll update him.

Just installed regular HelixLauncher and like it.. eager to try HelixLauncher 2 so if you hear anything definitely let us know (and thanks!)

Does it/can it port in old HelixLauncher's settings? What are the biggest advantages of 2 over 1?

this is not 100% correct, the error halts the process.


to those getting the error, when you are downloading the file, is it downloading as a zip or are you compressing it to a zip?

I am downloading it as a zip for firefox. Do i need to un-zip it?

No, don't unzip, make sure its named update and put it on the root of your sd card

Battery life definitely not as good. Also, Live Wallpaper has frozen once in a couple of hours. Restart required to put it right.

So in reading this thread, I am more than convinced I will just wait for Koush or Blackdroid to update their ROM's, and then switch over. I do not want to lose my rooted device, and the apps I have for it. Looks like if Pete has it already rooted, it shouldn't be more than a week for everyone to update their ROMs to include the 2.1 radio update.

Rename the file update and make sure it's .zip, not .zip.zip so you'll need to go into your folder options within windows and unhide extensions.

then, mount the SD card and copy the update.zip directly onto the card, not into any folders.

unmount and power off. slide open keyboard, power on and hold X. when you see the /!\ with the PDA, press the camera button and then up volume and a menu will appear. go to apply update.zip using the directional pad.

applies update, and asks to reboot.. reboot and done.

After updating 2.1....My droid is so HOT after using a while, new galery is so slow, when using live wallpaper the whole menu is laggyyy.... so sad.....
