Droid 2 as a media device?

My wife upgraded to a Note II and I want to use her old Droid 2 as a media device (for movies & music). I did a factory rest on it and it keeps coming to the "touch the Android to begin" screen, in an attempt to activate the phone. I've never rooted a phone or used a MOD; what do I do now?
