So let me get straight to it, because my OCD is driving me nuts, lol. For those of you who've used both, which do you prefer for not only messaging, but for gaming as well?

Maybe one works better for messaging and the other for gaming perhaps?

The reason I'm asking is because I'm currently on Verizon and in the middle of a 30 day trial with Sprint and the Epic. However, I have an itch to order a Droid 2 and try it out, but I don't want to go through the hassle of returning one or the other if I don't have to. Plus, I've already gotten my first Sprint bill, lol, before my 30 days is even up.

So help me out here if you have experience with both, which do you prefer overall?

Most games out for android are touchscreen specific, the main games that use the keyboard are emulators.

Until the Game Gripper comes out for the Droid 2, it's keyboard is likely the worst keyboard for gaming on the market next to the Charm. The original droid was more usable for this as it had a d-pad (and all of the emulators would let you flip the screen to use the Droid upside down so the d-pad was on the left)

I'm curious as to what is driving you over to the Droid 2 over the Epic 4G in the first place, technically the Epic has better specs (better keyboard for typing, hd video, front facing camera, 4g, better camera, larger screen, and if you're into hacking your phone ... no locked bootloader). However, the Droid 2 does ship with 2.2 froyo + adobe flash.

Now, with all of that said I'm a happy Droid 2 owner, but I'd likely take an Epic 4G over a Droid 2 any day. My Verizon contract goes till Nov of next year however =p

it has 512 even if it's not all given to the system doesn't mean its not their

Really? I had the Droid for a bit and hated having to hold it upside down. To me the Droid 2 is perfect. The keys are offset, making the WSZX area a great directional pad whereas on the Epic you have unstaggered keys that don't offer a directional setup. I've had absolutely no problems playing SNESoid, Gameboid, and PSX4droid on the Droid 2. It's also nice to have Volume Up and Focus as your L & R buttons, although it takes a bit to get the dexterity needed for them.

I came from T-Mobile and spent a long time considering the Droid 2 vs the Epic. In the end Droid 2 won due to vastly superior build quality, higher resolution and sharper screen (I've used AMOLED, don't bother trying to sell me), staggered keys that are perfect for gaming, and the best docking solutions of any phone on the market. Software means nothing to me, as we can fix anything with a little effort - though it is nice to have Froyo already.

Well today I made the final decision to switch to Sprint and ditch Verizon, but originally what was driving me was simple curiosity. I like to compare things and simply wanting to use a "Droid" which I had been wanting since the first one released was a motivating factor. And it was tough switching from Verizon, which provided stellar service.

But in the end, I looked at everything Sprint and the Epic offered over Verizon and the Droid 2 and I was obviously getting a better value overall with the former. Still wasn't an easy decision, but I'm glad I made it...so far.
