I don't know what it is, I've tried searching and can't find anyone with the same problem. This is what is going on...

If I open the stock camera via the app drawer, or using the side button, and it makes the clicking noise like it's coming on, or the flash is coming on? ... it will restart. This happens if the phone hasn't been powered off for a day or two.

However, if I open the camera, and have to close it or accidently close it, then reopen it, BAM! Restart. Not always though, but a good bit of the time.

Sometimes when I open the Flashlight and it's making that clicking noise to turn on the LED(?) it will restart, a lot of the time I hit the screen while trying to use the light to actually see what I'm trying to use the light for, and it turns it off, when I turn it back on, BAM! Restart.

Application ecamera, that is suppose to disable the flash and clicking noise, same thing as the stock camera. This has been going on for a while, and I'm about to the point of doing something about it. I haven't done a hard reset, because that's a pain in the arse and frankly, that's one of the reasons I got away from Blackberry.

Ok, earlier I couldn't take a picture, time was of the essence and no matter what I did, when hit the button (physical or touch) the square turned RED. Finally I just yanked the battery out put it back in and took the picture. UGGH. Never had that happen before.

Now this is where I'm stuck, I'm not sure if I want to bother hard resetting because it's going to be a major chore, but I might. I don't know if this is a physical problem, or a software issue. Before my 30 days were up I did mess up the phone, the screen wouldn't load but it would come on.

A friend hooked it up and said he flashed the OS back on, this allowed me to use the phone normally. Maybe this is the cause of my issues, I can't specifically remember if i had this problem before as that was months ago.

I know deep down the only way to go with this is to hard reset it with tech support, have them send me a refurb, but really who knows if I'm better off keeping the dang phone. I wish they had a friggin' desktop manager, for real.

Also: When trying to find info about your phone online, you realize how having 78% of the world calling all Androids "droids" is no longer cool, and how having a phone named Droid 2 really doesn't help your Google-Fu either.

Also seem to be having the problem other people are where the screen goes off and won't come back on. Can have the keyboard closed, open it and the screen goes off, knowing the phone is still on. Every combination of that has happened, every button pushed, sometimes it comes on after 10 seconds or sometimes it restarts.

I just pull the battery and get if over with usually.

I've woken up at least twice with the phone just off, still having battery power. Last week the phone drained the battery and died overnight, but I might have somehow bumped it just right to launch the browser, which is set to stay on. Who knows. I didn't know I'd need to install video survellance to watch my phone while I was sleeping lol.

Really sounds like a defective device. Are you still of the time to return it? If not you might have to use the warranty or see if Verizon will send you a replacement.

Nine times out of ten this is a bad application or ROM that's screwing up your phone. I think you're #10. The clicking sound seems odd to me, my LED seems pretty much silent, you can try downloading DroidLight from the market which will allow you to toggle the camera LED (your flashlight program may do the same thing), if it clicks each time it sounds like a bad camera module.

For some of your other issues, I always charge overnight. It's a long time to leave the phone alone and all it takes is a few automatic updates to really drive up data usage and drive down battery life.

When searching, usually Google is a bit smarter with quotes. If you search for the following:
"Droid 2" camera issues

You may come up with more hits. However, I agree that the naming could be better. Especially when you need to search for Droid2, D2, and who knows how many other variants that are out there or if you need to include the D2G in the list.

As for the desktop manager, Android devices store everything in the cloud. On a hard reset all of your apps, contacts and emails will be automatically downloaded - it's just custom things like phone settings and layout that need to be reworked. There are also backup managers out there, but generally you need to be rooted to use them.
