Droid Bionic Bugs Thread

yeah so it is what it is, all the bugs are just minor inconveniences nothing major. people get so frustrated and give up and return there phone so quick claiming my old phone works way better.... well yeah your old phone has had many of patches lol. people have no patience

Very true! Like I have been saying, as soon as we see some patches for this phone, it will be even more amazing. Early Adopters always get a crap end of the stick, but later they often feel like it was good to do it because they can upgrade their phone faster than someone who was either waiting for everything to get fixed or waiting for another phone (that would have probably even more problems), and often help the phone become better anyways. It gives them time to get used to a new phone.

My old phone DOES work WAY better! Seriously, did anyone at Motorola actually USE this phone before it was put on the market? I used it for 4 HOURS and found the mysterious "disappearing-app bug!" The camera and camcorder are the worst I've ever seen and it drops calls in full coverage areas. I spent over 30 hours in the past four days trying to make this thing work as it should and it deserves no more of my time. The only good thing I have to say about this phone is it is FAST...when 4G decides to work! Returning it ASAP. I have no desire to be stuck with this mess for the next two years!

I've been having a weird issue lately that I hope someone can help out with. When I back out of apps (browser, camera, market etc.) and check the stock task manager, I see they are still running. I added them to the auto end list but I still have to manually end the programs. Anybody have any idea what could be causing this?

If I recall, the task manager does not kill the apps until two minutes after the screen shuts down. So, make sure you turn the screen off and give it a few minutes before you check.

Thanks. I feel pretty stupid...that was the problem.

I have the same problem with my Bionic. I moved all the apps to the phone and will not move them to the sd card till there is an update or fix for this bug. There is enough ram and the dual core processor that keeps it fast until the fix comes. I miss being able to link contacts like on my Droid X.

I just got the Bionic this afternoon and I have serious lag issues. most of the time it is fine. However in the 8 hours I have used it there have been at least 10 instances of total screen unresponsiveness. after about 5 to 10 seconds, all my screen choices come flooding in.

The only issue I have had with my Bionic is the very rare loss of signal. I simply switch to airplane mode and switch back and it fixes it.

I haven't had any lost apps, dropped calls, hissing in the audio or any of the other issues presented so far. (fingers crossed that I didn't just jinx myself)

So we are supposed to have sound when hitting the power/sleep button?

Well my bugs are as followed:

1. Android market place doesn't allow me to view all results, there is no clickable button to view more.

2. When scrolling through the home screen, the icons/widgets don't move in unison. They move at different speeds and over lap eachother in odd ways.

3. The notification bar battery shows more power by 10% than what the battery usage menu states.

4. Pinch zooming on a webpage doesn't resize the text to fit the screen unless a double tap is done or you rotate the camera.

That's all I've noticed so far.

^^those are pretty significant.

so this morning I pulled my DB off the charger and tried to make a call, and it wouldn't go through. Have auto-retry set but no luck. Figured I must have a bad signal inside my apt. but tried again outside, still no luck. Rebooted and voila, I was able to make a call with no issues. Annoying but not earth-shattering nor deal-breaking. I could tell you my DInc never did this, but of course this is a much more sophisticated machine than that...

Im also having the #3 issue of the 3G/4G data going out and having to toggle airplane mode to bring it back. Minorly annoying and hoping there is a OTA soon to fix it, other than that love this phone.

I've had the link from screen icon to app break numerous times. This happens to random apps, whether they are on the SD card or the phone memory. It happens after I connect the phone to a computer to transfer/copy files (songs and photos) on or off the phone. It's happened after the phone was connected to a Mac or to a PC. The icon remains on screen, but when you press it, a message says, "This app is not installed on your phone." Sometimes, but not always, rebooting the phone restores the link between the icon and the app.

Quite annoying and a huge waste of time.

I went to check my voicemail. Upon doing so you are prompted to enter your password. My password starts with a 1. When I pressed 1 the screen would flash on and off. This happened multiple times. I put the phone down and let it sit in standby for 45 minutes. Went back to check my voicemail again and had no problem pressing the number 1. Same type of issue noted by the first post in this thread.

There is an annoying clicking sound when watching a movie with Netflix. I suspect this is an issue with Netflix as the speakers don't click when listening to music.

I must have got lucky. I am a light/medium user and the ONLY issue I am having is the apps that disappear. I am having no other issues mentioned. I don't use Netflix or listen to music on my phone so cannot speak to the "noise" that other people are reporting. I like this phone.

I got my Bionic on launch day and I have experienced a number of these bugs and more.

The first one that I noticed was the missing apps. It happens on a very regular basis for me and is easily cleared up with a restart. Often, even my contact favorites are missing along with apps.

Another I noticed while traveling this weekend along I80 from Illinois to New York. My data connectivity would drop completely (I assume that I was in poor reception areas when it dropped) but then it would not reconnect on its own, even when traveling into larger populated areas. I always had to do it manually.

During my trip this weekend, I used my navigation quite a bit and experienced the speaker distortion as well on numerous occasions. I also heard it once while on a phone call using the speakerphone.

And the one that bothers me the most, I did not find until this morning. My friend asked me if I received the picture that she sent me. I never received a picture. I have no notification that indicates that there should be one. There isn't even anything in the message thread that would lead me to believe that something should be there. She sent it multiple times even after i checked the settings and power cycled my phone. I had other contacts send me pictures as well but I haven't received any. Come to think of it...I haven't received a single picture since I got my new phone but I have confirmed that I can send them just fine. I called Verizon and they couldn't find any reason why I wouldn't be getting them. They said that they would call me back...that was over 6 hours ago

Thanks to Workodactyl for putting this thread together. Rarely I have had the "Black screen of bionic death" as someone quoted in another thread.

My main issue is that the phone freezes for long periods of time 10-30 seconds. I noticed the biggest problem with this when I tried to clear all my duplicate contacts that happened when i transferred contacts from my phone at Verizon. Right now I have about 1000 contacts and I swear two-thirds of those are duplicates. I also notice the issue with text messaging when it appears to try and identify the thread phone number with the contact. So I don't know if its a RAM issue dealing with all those extra contacts but there should be enough in this beast to power through that. Slowly clearing through all the contacts (with all the delays included) to see if the issue is resolved.

I cant seem to download pictures when someone sends me an MMS. No options come up at all. Its very strange. I can view the pic but cant save it or set it as anything

Also forgot to mention that I am having to Force close a lot of activities because the phone freezes up including watching the videos, texting, heck, even I have even had to Force close the home screen/OS at times. Wondering if I need to return the phone for a new Bionic...

I noticed there have been questions about bugs with the phones. I've had a few of my own... I imagined they'll all be ironed out through verizon soon enough -- Or perhaps with an ICS update? haha

Anywho, instead of making a hundred threads maybe we can address them all here or in an official sticky, or if I missed one, there.

So the bugs I've found so far are the following:

1. '1' on the dial screen. -- I noticed through multiple automated calls that request you to punch in an account number or phone number, the '1' does not activate as quick as the other numbers. -- seems like everytime I try to tap it it turns off the screen. I bring the screen back and have to use my whole thumb for the phone to recognize the number '1' has been pushed. Kind of annoying -- hope it's a bug and I hope it's fixed.

2. Mobile Hotspot -- I'll have to get rid of this money sink once the phone is safely unrooted or Verizon comes down on their price. However, I have it now and it was working fine. but today it asked me to purchase it again. the tech informed me that the switch needed to be reset and didn't know why that wasn't being communicated from the device. -- Assuming another Bug.

3. Not sure if this is bug -- But the signal drops frequently. this may be a hardware issue. But late at night I'll have no signal.. I live in a 4G area and receive barely any 4G connectivity. I'm on the edge but not in the extended 4G zone. but apart from that at random times in the day I'll receive no signal -- sometimes requires a reset to acquire a signal.

4. Verizon Tones does not work on -- server is always busy. for days straight, I don't think so. I've tried purchasing ringtones from their online store. They text message you the ringtone to which when you save you'll run into an error -- SD Card unavailable. Another bug I presume.

5. Netflix app Cracking Ticking Clicking - Audio Issue - Perhaps another hardware issue with the speaker?

6. LED Notification - the notification LED will flash until the notification bar is pulled down. I believe the sd card message that pops up on boot, but self clears is triggering the notification LED.

7. Sleep/wake button on top to turn the screen off and it instantly turns back on.

8. Restart phone, certain apps that are already installed before says that 'this app is not installed'

Edit: added a few more that have been mentioned in the thread.

So if anyone has similar problems, feel free to list em here and if anyone has fixes for these issues please let me and us know.

Thanks!

Definitely had number 1 occur a few times. I have also had loss of 3G signal twice when the phone sits idle for an extended period.ie; over night. Turning the phone on and off restores all functions. No other issues for me so far.
