Droid Bionic First Pictures!!

Time to call in UFO investigators? They are great at determining dimensions of objects relative to other objects based on known dimensions.

Good one...the Atrix is only a 4" screen so whether the Bionic is 4.3" or 4.5'" of course it will look bigger, it is. :)

On the Chinese site it was leaked the guy/gal said it came with a 1750 mAh battery. I personally hope thats not final and they can fit a 1930 mAh in this 4.3/4.5 beast. But 1750 mAh isn't bad at all.

Thank you, I was having a hard time finding it. I have read it on a few sites that is has the 1750 battery now.

Ok, so far our improvements include:
Downsizing the Battery
Going to Single Flash instead of Dual Flash
Getting rid of the red themed bionic icons
adding web-top???
Possibly increasing screen size using same resolution...

anyone else confused?

also... Can someone show me sales number for Atrix phones and then sales numbers for the lap dock? IS that ratio of sales like 50% of atrix users bought the lap dock?? Is the cost justification there to add bloat to a phone if say only 10%-20% of your Bionic phone buyers are going to purchase the lap-dock? I cant imagine the ratio is that high.

From a business perspective, why WOULDN'T Motorola put the Webtop software on the device if there was even a 10% chance they could sell more laptop docks? They see a chance, they'll stuff the bloat on there.

I guess point I was getting at was whats the number of people who would have bought it minus the bloatware which equates to more ram for the phone. vs. number of people who will buy the laptop dock?

Which number is or would have been higher?

But my feeling is their laptop dock's are not selling worth a darn so to save someone's arse they are trying to find a way to get more sales.

Hopefully some of the upgrades are also in the details like, Improved camera sensor (i would rather have an 8mp with improved sensor than a 12mp), different display improved over pentile, maybe other little "improvements".

The move to 1gb of DDR2 is an improvement and from what people say on the XDA forums webtop does not use the RAM unless it is "in use", so we'll have ~800mb available, but lets not open this can of worms again.

The biggest "upgrade" imo, is the move from tegra 2 to the omap 4460, providing its a 1.2 dualcore (confirmed) and shoots 1080p (confirmed?) then someone said it *has* to be a 4460 (newest? best?) SoC because the others can't do those 2 things together, which is awesome.

Also has a/the newest version of motoblur with 3d effects/animations.

I agree with what you are saying. Some of the things just don't make sense. But there is too much unknown. Why did they decide to go with 1 flash instead of 2. Why did they decide to downsize the battery, I also tend to believe this will be sporting the 4460 which is supposed to have better power management so guess we will see in time. The theme I am hoping is not complete at this point as it looks extremely dull (imo). I am also hoping for better camera sensor, I read somewhere the Droid 3 Camera is performing much better than the DX2 so that is a good sign. I seriously doubt the screen is going to be anything different. I am still excited about this phone, waiting to see what the specs pan out to be, FFC, battery life, screen size. 4.5" is almost a deal breaker for me.

You're welcome.

Not quite sure what all the numbers mean? Can you explain? I know how it relates to the total screen size but dont understand what the first 2 numbers are and what you mean by error. Thanks

The numbers are width times height then equals horizontal measurement

I live in 4g Area, so GSII is out of the question for me.

It appears this is not sporting Dual Flash for the camera though, that is a little surprising.

It looks like a Xenon flash to me. Its got that long shape and it doesnt have any colored hint like LED flashes.

The percent error is how far my calculations were off from the accepted (Droid X) or assumed (Bionic) dimensions of the screens. The fact that the percent off from the Bionic with a 4.5" screen was only 1.244% pretty much grantees a 4.5" screen. I ran the same calculations with the possibility that the phone was an Atrix, but the Bionic cam out with a whopping screen around 5", which I'm fairly confident Motorola wouldn't do.

Thx for the pics Ice. I do see what you're saying how the Bionic is a bit taller and you seem to be correct. I was looking specifically at the size of the dock of the Atrix vs the Bionic. Both of them appear to have the same size docks (the dock starts at the corner of the netbook and extends to the middle about level with the Moto symbol). This led me to believe the two phones were the same size...now we know different. If the two docks look the same in the two different photos, then my conclusion is that Moto made a larger netbook to account for the larger Bionic. There is nothing size-wise in the pics to compare (such as a Quarter or a dollar bill) the devices.
Anyone have any specifics on the netbook yet?

No problem , here's 2 more (Atrix docked Vs. Bionic docked)
I think its a one laptop dock for both the Atrix & the Bionic
If you looked closely at the area between the the Bionic & the Dock , there is small gab where you can see the USB & the HDMI metal connecters between them , plus it looks like there is a curve to match the Atrix's design , but the picture quality isn't high enough to determine that
Which makes me think that its a one Laptop for both of them & all future Web-Toped Motorola phones

So probably Motorola had this planned out since the get go , you know went with the concept of "One Size Fits All"
It will be better & cheaper for them that way , since they won't have to design a new Laptop every time , like you said they made the Laptop dock larger to fit bigger phones like the Bionic
If thats true (& i hope its) , that means there is a Thickness Limit (in order to make em fit in the dock) they have to follow , in order to do that & that means :

- The Droid Bionic won't be much thicker than the Atrix (In order to make it fit) , but allot thiner than the HTC Arrive (Man that phone is thick !)
- The Same goes with the Droid 3 & the future Web-Toped Motos

This could also explains why they had to downsize the battery from 1930 mAh to 1750 mAh , plus they have to make more room for the LTE radio (which might be the reason of the Droid look-a-like chin)

I guess we will find out , when they release more Info

Idk next to the atrix it still doesn't look that much larger screen size wise so i would be surprised if it is over 4.3 but who knows.

yes , you are right
I was thinking the same way , it does have the traditional design & look as a Xenon Flash

What does "I AF" means ?
Its engraved under the Flash light right next to "8MP" above "1080p HD video" , it says "8MP I AF"
