DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

The only way to do that is by freezing it which you must be rooted to do.

Did an FDR the other day. Not happy with performance of phone after a couple of hours of use. Assuming a program was not releasing its cache memory. I did check the clean internal memory option. I did not do this after the upgrade from ICS, so could have also been issues left behind from previous OS. On day three after FDR and battery life and snappiness is great. Do have one question though. Is anyone else able to disable the text messaging app native to the phone? If so, how. I googled this, but not really finding anything. Thanks ahead of time.
A friend of mine with unrooted stock has had the same general complaint, that performance is worse than with ICS. She hasn't done an FDR, yet, though. I suspect that will fix a lot of it.

And, as Sam said, you need to root to touch any system apps.

It's unfortunate, but it seems that an FDR is just about required after any major OS update. There is no doubt a lot of unnecessary frustration out there among the less informed every time an OTA goes out.

I ran an FDR Thursday night without wiping the internal memory. All Friday morning my performance was terrible, I mean really terrible. I was considering rerunning the FDR with the internal wipe. Fortunately, Sam talked me into waiting. (Thanks Sam).

Not sure if it just needed settling in time, or if it was some reboots, but performance started to improve around lunch time and it has been great since.

I bought a desk dock along with my OEM battery just for the heck of it LOL! I like it a lot. Amazon OEM accessories are so cheap now for the Bionic.

At least it gives me an excuse to utilize the excellent Amazon Prime.

At first I thought there were no major differences in how my phone functioned after the update, but that pretty quickly changed. Multiple apps crash, sluggish shifting from one screen to another, it is slow to 'wake up' when I press the power button. A few times I've seen a pop up error type message about gui exception...something, something. It goes away within a couple seconds, so I've not been able to catch the whole message. I've cleared the cache on any apps. Any suggestions? BTW, I'm not rooted.

Try disabling Backup Assistant Plus if you aren't using it. Apparently it is balking at using WiFi instead of the towers. No idea why it tries to connect if you aren't subscribed.

I don't have the option to disable it. That's grayed out. I know I disabled some things recently, it's possible that was in there.

About how long may expect the reset to take? I've made the list of most apps I plan to reinstall, etc. Got the Dropbox account up and photos synced (h/t to SamuriSam). Anything else I should take care of before doing this?

If I recall correctly, the reset only took a matter of minutes. Its the setup of the phone that takes so much time.

Thanks for pointing that out guys! Picked up a car dock and desk dock for ~$18. Gives me even more incentive to hang on to it till the Moto X or new Nexus gets released.

Are you set up for automatic restore? SETTINGS>BACKUP & RESET>check BACK UP MY DATA and AUTOMATIC RESTORE.
It really works very well.

I did an FDR this past week. I did it through recovery. When the phone came back up I froze all Verizon apps as well as the Backup crap. For the first few days I had horrible battery life but now it's going well. I have the extended battery and I'm now at 48% after 12 hours. Moderately heavy use (browser, calls). I have it on forced CDMA (3G) only.

I am cautiously optimistic that the Bionic is finally what I want it to be. It better be because I can't afford an unsubsidized S4 until later this year.

My wife's Bionic is having an issue with the dialer since the JB update. Numbers that have to be entered during a call are not being recognized correctly with JB. She tried to activate a new credit card, and it failed repeatedly to recognize the entered numbers. I tried using my MAXX HD and had no trouble. She does this on speaker phone, and you can actually hear the distorted tones as the keys are pressed. Has anyone else noticed this?

I resurrected my Bionic and have the same issue.

Well I moved on from the Bionic that I never could get rooted. Here is a copy of the latest log. Waiting for my wife and I to get our new Nexus 4's that we will be using on T-mobile's LTE network. Will unlock bootloader, root it, and put whatever I feel like putting on it. Bye bye, VZW and Motorola!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the same problem but only if I am on speaker phone. When not on speaker phone the numbers are entered correctly. Try that and see if it works for you.

You're trying to run a 32 bit app on 64 bit Linux without the 32 bit libraries installed. Install ia32 libs or switch to 32 bit linux.

well, just wanted to give an update....Friday I finally rooted my phone using Dans instructions (worked like a charm after I fixed some stuff on my end and understood what Ubuntu was doing) then Sam helped me understand a few things so was off and running...I tried a new ROM (LiquidSmooth) all weekend and ended up going back to the stock. Not that it wasn't slick, I'm just a creature of habit and like knowing where all of my junk is.

All in all, JB is running good. Battery life is a little better than with ICS and haven't run into any problems. It's nice to know that I have a pretty good phone that is fairly up to date and that I can have a backup for when I screw it up. I will be running this for another year or so, so my wife is happy too :)
