I want to think that it's Verizon. Since this is a new type of network, they're constantly doing work on it that will impact the users. Until every market in the US is covered at the end of 2013 (when they promised to have 4G in all of the current 3G markets), you'll probably see more of it.

Then again, it could also be the first generation of 4G radios. It's like the first model year of a new or remodeled vehicle. It's going to have bugs or issues that will be solved in the next model year. Same could be said for the new Verizon network.

Or... it could be neither of these and I'm just blowing smoke. Who knows.

Ken7 and cruiserdude... where are the areas that you both reside? I'm willing to bet it's coverage area for the most part. I'm seeing the same things on my replacement phone that I did on my first.

I'm on Long Island in an area that Verizon's detailed map shows as solidly 4G...not fringe, not extended, solid. Go figure. I can also go to a shopping area nearby that has zero 4G coverage, at least on my phone, and yet also shows as 'solid' 4G.

Is this a case of very overly optimistic coverage maps or lousy 4G/3G reception?

I am out of theories also. When I got the EE4 update there was a dramatic improvement in 3G and voice signal. After a few days the data signal was awful. I tried all of the tricks, airplane mode, power cycle and battery pull. The next day it was good again. I don't see how it could be the phone radios. Maybe periodic interference or VZ network issues in my area?

Barry, the reason I do believe it's the radios is the fact that in each and every 'no connectivity' instance I've had, my wife's Verizon Iphone has had no issues with data...none at all. So yes, if everything were truly optimized on Verizon's network we might never see these issues, but when signal strength does become an issue, it seems the Charge fails and the Iphone succeeds. Could it be simply something quirky in the towers not properly instructing the phones what to do? Possibly, but again I lean more toward a sensitivity issue in the radios. I think in old radio language this used to be called (and might still be), capture threshold...or something like that.

Looks like I'll be going back for a third Charge. Mine is having strange screen issues. I'm getting these white lines across my screen at various times of turning the screen on, and I'm having the same issue that some Galaxy S2 owners are having with the screen being uneven from left to right, tends to be brighter on the left side and darker on the left side. Easiest way to test is have a gray background on your phone and turn the brightness all the way down. Mine's very noticeable. I'm starting to despise this phone.
