For anyone with a new Droid Charge looking for the drivers, they aren't up on Samsung's site as an available download. Needless to say, if you want to root your phone, you're going to need them to be able to use adb. When you plug your phone into your PC, it is likely going to show up as a CD-ROM device (this baffles my as to why they do this). Open up the new cd drive, and you should be able to get the drivers you need from there. After that, it will be happy rooting.

This info doesn't seem to generate much interest right now, but guaranteed to when more ppl get their charge.
I can just see ppl screaming "WE CAN'T GET DRIVERS!! HOW DO WE ROOT???"

Thanks imnuts for this valuable information.

I will be happy to donate to the development cause, custom kernel's and a GB ROM are what I seek, heck ASOP ROM would be best and get rid of the TouchWiz so you can put any launcher on without wasting space.

can you explain the directions to get this driver installed? I've tried to get it installed and seems like I can't get it to work right :(

Click on the drive that mounts when you connect your phone as charge only. It will ask if you want to install drivers.

I did that but it seems like when I turn on the usb debug on it doesn't recognize it again
I'm trying to root the phone but adb can't access the phone and I think it's the driver problem.

turn off usb debugging to pull the drivers from the phone. turn it back one once they are installed.

When you mount the phone windows should see a virtual drive. Open it and it will recommend you install drivers for the Charge.

I installed drivers from the phone as suggested (I'm on Vista 32bit) but when I turn USB debugging back on, it continues to ask me for the driver. It doesn't seem happy with any directory I point it at. Any other suggestions much appreciated!

So after much futzing around I was finally able to pull the driver package off my Droid Charge. It's an 8.1MB .exe package which is too large to attach here but if you need it, PM me and I'll email it to you.

Could you upload it somewhere plz mediafire/megaupload type site

much appreciated thank you!

--any generic "Samsung USB driver for Mobile Phones" driver will also work so google it.
--Also make sure to use the cable provided with the phone, i was using a cable which came with my camera and it wasnt letting windows recognize the phone properly.
