Droid MAXX: Quality of music over Bluetooth is poor...

Re: Quality of music over Bluetooth is poor...

Just got my Droid Maxx a couple days ago. And, as others have reported in this thread I am also experiencing difficulties in playing music via bluetooth in my car. During most of the songs there is a nasty sounding static that can be heard for any treble or high level noises. It is particularly noticeable when you hear the cymbals from the drums. And some guitars sounds come through like it's screeching or highly distorted. And I know there is nothing wrong with the music player because when I disconnect Bluetooth and plug in an auxiliary jack to my car and play the exact same song it sounds normal. Although I don't have a lot of faith that Motorola will fix this anytime soon, I might be willing to call customer support and register a complaint. Perhaps if enough of us do this they might speed up some sort of software update.

Bluetooth headsets also have an issue so its not related to cars in general. This is just a software issue (I hope) that can be fixed.

Re: Quality of music over Bluetooth is poor...

I had to replace my first Droid Maxx since it was having issues connecting properly with a charger. Was within the 14 day period so no problem.

So on a whim I tried using Bluetooth with my second Maxx. Same exact problem. That static and distorted sound identical to the first one.

Re: Quality of music over Bluetooth is poor...

Received the update yesterday. Bluetooth issue with music is exactly the same as before the update. Music still sounds distorted. I even turned down the Bluetooth volume on the phone and distortion still present. I guess this is just a flaw I'll have to live with. Basically I traded a WiFi problem from my Droid Razr Maxx HD for a Bluetooth problem on Droid MAXX. If I had to choose, I'd rather have properly working WiFi than Bluetooth. So it's a step up for me.

Anytime I feel frustrated with my Droid Maxx Bluetooth problem, I'll just tell myself "hey at least it's not an iPhone", and then I'll feel better.

I agree but I don't understand why its so difficult to have both working. I can't understand how Motorola technicians didn't catch this before launch.

Re: Quality of music over Bluetooth is poor...

Mine has been back to the static and lower quality for a few weeks now since I posted earlier. I don't get it. Worked flawlessly for a couple weeks then all of a sudden back to crap since then. Yeah I really wish there an option to check or something. I mean I can listen to it, it's just not as clear as I would expect a digital sound to be

Re: Quality of music over Bluetooth is poor...

I contacted Verizon Wireless regarding this and we called Motorola together. The off shore support of Motorola put us on hold and hung up on us. This was after he told me that he's never heard of the issue. Go figure, not the first time I've had Motorola disconnect my call. I feel this device is all all around great device but I really want the Bluetooth to work because anti-wires.

Anyone see any improvement?

I had to call Moto support last week as well. Horrible. It was almost a complete waste of time. Although they just sent me a survey to rate the support - that should be fun to fill out!

I really love everything about this phone except the Bluetooth. Its enough to make me go for a different device if it isn't solved. Its not a big deal if I rarely listen to music but I do it constantly and am stuck using wired headphones.

Re: Quality of music over Bluetooth is poor...

This is driving me insane. I am wearing Bluetooth headphones right now and the static is making me want to go silent with no music. Its almost like a static/low distortion sound that is out to drive me into the insanity home. :(

Re: Quality of music over Bluetooth is poor...

To get near CD quality music the receiving device must support AptX codec. The MAXX does have support for AptX but not every device does as that is a proprietary codec and not a part of Bluetooth stack. With AptX the sound quality is amazing

Re: Quality of music over Bluetooth is poor...

I just ordered the Motorola Buds and should be getting them sometime in the next week. If a Moto product gets bad audio from a Moto phone, I'll probably be blaming the music service.

Re: Quality of music over Bluetooth is poor...

Just passing this along although most know this by now. I dumped the Maxx for a Note 3 and listened to music over Bluetooth in my 2012 Acura again. While the Maxx always had static the Note 3 had no distortion what so ever. When I asked Motorola about this the other day they told me no one has ever complained about this which I find difficult to believe. Especially considering I did it and they had no record of it...

The music service? I used not only my car but Motorola S305Bluetooth headphones, Bose AE2W and Bose Soundlink II speaker and got static. This was with PlayerPro, PowerAmp, Google Play Music (On storage and streaming), Xbox Music and SiriusXM. There is no way all of those services fail on nothing but the Maxx. It's an issue with the hardware design or software.

It hasn't been for me is more what I was saying. I wasn't even referencing you in my comment. If you think its something wrong with the phone, call Moto customer service and see if they'll help you claim it as defective.

I tried that. After 6 replacements between that and WiFi issues all giving me static I gave up and got a Samsung. I'm glad you're not experiencing any issues though. I wasn't trying to come off as rude so please forgive me if it sounded that way.

No worries. And I might have been taking it wrong anyway.

I will say that this phone is not well made in terms of build quality. the gaps where the kevlar meets the front edges and constant complaints of bad bluetooth audio (not just on these forums) are not dying down at all. Usually, its a first run of products, then smooth sailing when they all get fixed, but this phone for some reason just can't be saved. I'm about to call in a claim on mine due to the creaking and loose sides, but I'm not quite at the point where I would look for a new phone yet.

The build quality is great if you get one made properly. Sadly, the quality control doesn't seem top notch. I always had issues with the build quality and creaks but many said they didn't so it's my word against theirs.

I never think about as a "My word against theirs" kind of way. I think of it more as "My word against my willingness to keep pursuing an issue". I like this phone, its features, and its look. And I paid $540 for it. So I'm willing to keep getting put on hold proving something's wrong with it until I find that perfect unit with no issues. Even if I don't find it. I'm okay with the issues just because the phone is just so good.

True, but in my case I went as far as possible. Motorola wouldn't take blame and Verizon couldn't help. I spoke with corporate relations and supervisors and nothing could be done after a month. At some point you can only pursue so much. Sure I could have kept getting replacements but after 4 phones due to signal drop issues I felt I was fighting a battle that couldn't be won.
