I was trying to keep the conversation fair towards Blackberry as well. I don't think they are going away anytime soon. I'm purely looking at what the devices can do now and not the company itself.
In that case, why are you worried that a more powerful Android phone will come out a few months later?
I agree with others: you seem to be leaning to the Blackberry. Get it. I'm sure it will be a great phone for you. There is nothing that makes Android, iOS, Blackberry OS, Windows Phone, etc., better or worse for every single user. We are all unique, and what is important to me may not be all that important to you.
I picked a Maxx for the following reasons:
- Every once in a while, I find myself in a place where I have a really weak to non-existant mobile signal, and it can be really hard on the battery. Like you, I wanted a phone that would have a battery that would last all day without needing to be charged in a situation like that, if possible
- I have used Android phones for four years now, so I'm accustomed to it and have several apps purchased. However, I also have an iPad and an iPod Touch, and have lots of iOS apps as well. I wanted either Android or iOS going forward
- For years I have used an Android app called SMS Backup+, which not only does what it says - backs up SMS and MMS messages to archived conversations on my GMail account, which can also be restored later if I factory reset the phone (except for MMS messages - they cannot be restored.) Howeer, it also creates calendar entries in a Google calendar of my choice for all calls made and received, with details, etc., and can also backup and restore call log details to archived GMail conversations. There is nothing like that for iOS; not sure about BB or Windows Phone, but, again, I was leaning iOS or Android.
I had an update available in early August. Based on those three big things, I was looking at either the Droid Razr Maxx HD (which I wasn't excited about, being an old device) and the Samsung Galaxy S4. However, when I heard in July about the Droid Maxx, that phone really seemed to fill the bill for me. The GS4 would probably have been fine, but I decided to go with a device I knew would have good radios (remember that I occasionally find myself in weak signal areas), and Moto has always seemed to have good radios.
Anyway, like I said, everybody has different things that they are looking for. It will be hard for us to prioritize one thing over another for you (particularly for a phone or OS I have never seen nor used.) I think you'll be fine whichever you choose. Just pick one and don't look back and regret when you no longer have a choice (i.e., after the 14 day return policy.)
