My maxx works great on KitKat but I just bought it in October and was told it would be updated to lollipop soon so I was ok with that, but now I'm very disappointed that I'm stuck with old software for two years!

It's somebody like you who I think is really ripped off by this. Sure, you can buy a new Turbo 2 or Maxx 2 at $100 or $50 off list price, but if you already have a two year contract or a monthly payment commitment to Verizon for the Maxx bough as little as 4 months ago, that's hardly a deal. Maybe if Motorola allowed you to trade in the Maxx for one of those phones for something like a $50 or $100 upcharge, but the offer Motorola has made is almost insulting.

Even if you upgrade to the Turbo 2 or Maxx 2 you'll run into the same problem in a year from now. You're best option is to not get a Motorola phone ever again.

My maxx is not running well. Chrome is very slow to open.

Trust me: Not getting the Lollipop upgrade is no big deal.

I have the Moto X 2013 upgraded to Lollipop, as well as the Droid Maxx on 4.4.4, and the significant functionality Lollipop adds is minimal, while battery use issues abound.

(The Moto X 2013 is basically identical to the Droid Maxx, but with a smaller screen, smaller battery, and no wireless charging).

The best improvement that Lollipop brought, notifications on the screen when it's not in use, is implemented way better on the Moto X 2013/Droid Maxx anyway.

Sadly, these phones used a chipset that was quickly abandoned, making upgrades for them costly ...

No Android Auto capability without Lollipop at a minimum. The Maxx has a battery that is about 60% larger than the 2013 Moto X, so I assume that much of the battery issues would be mostly mitigated compared to the X.

And, since they already developed the upgrade for the similar Moto X, almost all of the work was already done. The only thing missing was support for capacitive vs. on screen buttons and Qi charging.

I get it - taking time to develop and support a phone that is over two years old reduces time for development on newer phones. But, the phone was only 14 months old when Lollipop was released, Verizon sold the Maxx to people who probably bought them on two year payment plans or even contracts as recently as last November, and they *still* sell the Mini.

I don't necessarily think that I'm entitled to an upgrade, but Motorola did promise to work on it, and I can say for sure that they have lost me as a customer until I see that they improve their support. That's going to take more than two years - I want to see that every Droid going forward gets an update if Motorola says that they phone will get updated. (Of course another issue is that I don't want a phone bigger than the about a 5" display, and Motorola doesn't seem to want to sell anything that normally sized anymore.)

As mad as I am that they aren't upgrading this phone, I'm still torn on whether or not to abandon Motorola. This is a darn good phone. I've had no problems with it in the 2.5 yrs that I've had it. Some people I know that have the iPhone 6 have had to replace theirs multiple times.

Oh, I did fix the Chrome problem. I went into my apps and disabled Chrome. It then re-installed the factory Chrome or something like that. It runs much, much faster now.

Right. Really the ONLY thing wrong with the Droid Maxx is that the camera is very mediocre. Outside of that, it's a great phone.

Replaced my Droid a little while ago, but this is still frustrating. Moto managed to get me to buy another device, though - $260 for a Nexus 6 was too good to pass up. I miss my Maxx battery though. The Maxx will continue to sit in a drawer & await service as my backup phone. Might take it with me on a trip coming up too, less of a loss if it's lost/stolen/broken. I'll probably stick with Nexus phones in the future.

Like many other owners I have been waiting patiently for this upgrade so this is a big disappointment.
I suspect the $100 discount off the MRP of a new phone is of no interest to most of us and much better deals are available in other places. I love my Maxx but given the lack of support from Motorola (and now Lenovo) I will be looking at devices from other manufacturers when I change my phone in the near future.
Owner loyalty has to be earned and I have seen nothing from Minolta/Lenovo to suggest it is deserved.

I've been a Motorola user from the very beginning with flip phones and then with smart phones....sorry I decided to go with a new LG G5....great phone
