Droid Pro is NOT a BlackBerry killer

IPhone wasn't exactly a "Blackberry killer" because it didn't have a physical keyboard. The reason why many people think this might hurt (not completely get rid of but definitely affect) the current BB customers is because it has a BB-like (in terms of layout at least) keyboard.

And of course, it will not completely decimate the BB market, because people who need BES will still use them. But it might sway many of the casual users who want a really good keyboard.

I think the real target are those Blackberry users who are not BES users.

Android needs to add tasks and notes sync to their exchange solution. Touchdown works great now for me, but even that does not do OTA notes sync.

This phone is a blackberry killer. So is the iPhone, so is wp7 as is palm (when they get their act together). Blackberry is palm 4 years ago. They don't innovate and are relying on what I call the "xp". IT departments are scared to find anything new. They also are reticent to spending more money on a whole new system especially if there are no top to bottom solutions that are comprehensive secure and customizable.

Thing is this is the strength of android. No one talks about this. Android being totally open to carriers is also open to large corporations. These corporations can make their own specific build of android which fills their own specific needs. So blackberry is getting hit from all sides. iPhone gets them on user experience, and reliability, wp7 will get them with tight integration with exchange, palm because hp is huge. As big as they are half their business is in the enterprise. And android being totally customizable. How can blAckberry compete? When their sales guys go to a company and give them a half mil price tag for BES with monthly charges when the alternatives are mostly free or very cheap?

Can we say that BB's will kill themselves?
I mean the new device they debuted looks like my kyocera palm os phone......
Nobody will ever die, unless PALM is in the title :)

Every fanboy wants their something to kill everything else and "win" by having nobody buy the other product.

So to combat this ridiculous endeavour, when someone refers to something as a ______killer, I don't take as they are meaning it is going to completely end the existence of something.

I take it as something is no longer going to dominate whatever it is that something is currently dominating.

It helps me not get fustrated with fanboys because when defining the term in this way, sometimes a fanboy's comment makes some sense.

In this case, Blackberry is no longer going to dominate the portrait qwerty arena for smartphones. This I can agree with.

For me, Android Central is an engadget killer, at least for Android mobile phone news.

I agree I think blackberry will kill themselves, unless they do something new to the boring OS. I mean imo all the blackberries are the same phone with very little differences on the designs. I never thought I would jump ship but I got bored with each model I got.

I know its slightly off topic but I think BB has a winner with its playbook. I was planning on getting a galaxy tab to go with my captivate. But after reading up on the playbook I can say I am very intrigued. The DP wont kill blackberry. Might steal a few customers. I was a BB user and do still miss them at times.

Are you kidding me? The company RIM is going to be the real "Blackberry Killer". RIM is their own worst enemy. I can't wait for the Playbook to come out either. That's going to be a huge reliefe to see that I was not one of the idiots that ran out and adopted that peice of techno-wonder. They can't even get a simple phone OS right and now RIM want's to drop a tablet!!! You running BB OS? Then you know what I'm talking about. Only the blind-mute, living in denial and easily led could possibly believe that RIM does not crank out sub-par devices. I have 2 berries collecting dust (Tour and Bold). Shame on my for buying the second after the first was clearly a dog! To me, a simple dumb-phone is a Blackberry killer. Any device that doesn't need regular battery pulls is a Blackberry killer. BTW, how are those Storm phones working out for you all? LOL @ the tards who jump on the BB bandwagon now.

"Also, VZW announced that there Iphone will be available 1stQ of 2011"

Where did this info come from? As far as I know, VZW hasn't announced anything.

Doesn't the fact that android does a good job implementing EAS and security settings mean that the Droid Pro will be able to steal BES consumers and corporations away from blackberry?

BTW I wish the DP had some sort of track pad.

Bingo!

Now that Moto has produced a "Android Blackberry", I dont think BBM is a big enough factor to save RIM from shedding tons of customers in the consumer market.

DING DING DING!!!!! BBM and a Physical Keyboard is what kept me for months! now swimming in the sea of Evo awesomeness!!!!!

Eh, I agree that RIM pumps out pitiful phones, but as long as you have Dumb ppl using Smartphones, RIM & bb's will continually be a hit. I was the Pied Piper of BB in my social community for a while, being the go to guy for all bb problems and such, but after going through a 8330 and 3 9630's and being absolutely BORED to death by the platform, I jumped ship... that was a month ago and my friends are still calling me LeBron James :D

Now that someone has broken into RIMs bread & bitter with a good VERTICAL keyboard... I think more Manufacturers & carriers will begin looking to at least carry one device with that form factor, and once that happens, you'll be able to buy major stock from RIM for 100 pesos :D

Absolutely it does. Why pay for BES and client licenses when EAS is already built into Windows Svr?

One of the main reasons I left BB was for lack of privacy. I was on BES, so everything I did, I mean everything, was logged and archived. What if some disgruntled IT person started printing and collecting these sometimes private messages? Lives could be ruined. I mean, not that I ever have, but what if I'm away at a conference and my wife starts sexting me? Do I really want some IT guy at my company having access to that? My fear with this Droid Pro is that it looks like the super enhanced EAS policy enforcement will allow this same "all-device" access by IT. If that's the case, no way I'm touching the DP.

I agree with you on this point. I think BB missed a great opportunity when they didn't go after Palm's WebOS. They could have developed it into something usable instead of their new OS.

I came from a BB Storm2... and never looked back!
Droid X is the new "fashion statement". :)

Wow, Blackberry bashing in an Android forum, how original. People who use Blackberries are not "tards", they just have different needs and wants from their smartphone. I'm also not sure how you can pass judgement on the new QNX OS without having laid hands on it yourself (and to do so indicates astonishing ignorance). Yes, the Droid Pro will pull in a fair few Blackberry users, but it isn't a Blackberry "killer" any more than the LG Dare was an iPhone killer (yeah, that was a thing for a while).
