Droid Pro is NOT a BlackBerry killer

I'm sure everyone here is capable of expressing their opinions without name calling. Let's exercise those abilities folks.

Wow, Blackberry bashing in an Android forum, how original. People who use Blackberries are not "tards", they just have different needs and wants from their smartphone. I'm also not sure how you can pass judgement on the new QNX OS without having laid hands on it yourself (and to do so indicates astonishing ignorance). Yes, the Droid Pro will pull in a fair few Blackberry users, but it isn't a Blackberry "killer" any more than the LG Dare was an iPhone killer (yeah, that was a thing for a while).

Tru dat. I had the Dare for a while. ****ty phone, but AMAZINGLY clear camera.

Hey, that's not fair - you can't just cut off the end of my sentence for a 'that's what she said' :p

If I was on Verizon, I would definately get this phone. I HATE slide out keyboards, and that seems to be the only keyboards they have been doing for Android phones. I like the look and the keyboard for this phone, very nice.

Ha..Ha! Storm 9530 + SurePress = Setting RIM back 2yrs in handset development. Because RIM "knew" touchscreen devices were "just a fad" so they half-a$$ed their design.I doubt if the D Pro is anyone's killer but if Moto gave it a KB like the Q9s had then it's a way better crossover than the Storms were. ;)

I'm a blackberry user and when I came across this post, I wonder how an Android would kill blackberry. IMHO, the only thing that would kill a Blackberry is to make all the apps have push capabilities. Having said that, I wanted to know what are the apps in Android Market that supports push. My intentions are, if I wanna jump ship to Android, I would like all my emails and IM accounts to have push services.

IF it is enabled by default (ie: right out of the box, the push service is available) that would be great. However if I have to tweak it (setting up mqtt) than perhaps as an end user, I would be really disappointed.

Best regards,thanks

I've been a Blackberry user for years after switching from Palm Treo. I got a Droid Pro Friday. I like the Pro, and I think it is going to draw a lot of Blackberry users (particularly Verizon) away from Blackberry. But, if MOTO want to really put a big dent in Blackberry's customer base it has to fix two things...Outlook sync (enterprise and individual) right out of the box and battery life. I've got my Pro sync'd now, but what a hassle and had to buy a third party app to do it. You don't have to do that with Blackberry or Palm.

I agree that there is not one platform that can kill another. My previous phone was a Blackberry Bold. Although the Pro has the keyboard, there are still several aspects that I will continue to miss. :(

The security and the ability to easily switch through profiles and assign different text sounds for different people. As of today, I have yet to find an app that will let me modify notifications (ie., mms, sms, im).

There will always be a place for BlackBerry smartphones. Im hoping that they will come out with a new operating system along with some awesome hardware. If their next generation of smartphones is anything like the PlayBook then it should get really interesting.

As much as BlackBerry and RIM take heat for being behind, there are just some people who can not get away from it and I think it'll always be that way. RIM is also at a crossroads with BlackBerry right now, and I think things are going to get very interesting once the Playbook is released, especially with the rumors than we'll eventually see QNX on BlackBerry Smartphones. Only time will tell.

Right now, RIM OS stinks, but I was an avid user for years. I'm hoping they get back to making cutting edge products. Competition only makes them all better, and right now there's nothing from RIM that Apple and Google see as an advantage.

Battery life....and the magnet sleeper are the only two things I miss about BB.

Yeah, battery life is amazing on a BB. Also miss the magnet, plus the home screen keyboard shortcuts and shortcuts within the native apps. BB's really are productive workhorses.

Push email and bbm are great features on the blackberry. If RIM utilizes their alleged sync feature between their phones and tablet, the combination of the two could be better than an iphone/ipad combo. At this point though, I haven't seen any demos featuring the powers of a bberry phone working with the tablet.
