Droid RAZR M - Email behaving badly

Droid RAZR M running 4.1.2 on Verizon. I'm using a POP account. Often, when I receive email from certain senders, the notification stamp shows up like normal. When I swipe down to view the message list, the message appears there. I tap it and I'm only shown the header for the message. If I exit then go to the inbox, the message is not there. The message is still present on the server as I can download it with a separate client. Is this happening to others?

My wife was recently having some different issues with the stock email. It kept telling her her password was wrong when it wasn't.

There are several free email c clients that are much better than stock. I ended up putting K9 mail on hers. I personally have been using Maildroid Pro for a few years now and really like it.

The stock client is entirely adequate for me. With several accounts including POP, Active Sync, http, all work fine except this weird disappearing email issue. It only happens on a POP account.
