Droid Razr(Original) Vs Samsung Nexus: On The Fence here

Last Saturday I Signed on and got a Droid Inc 2 but hated HTC and their signal/reception
and went on exchanged at best buy for my Droid Razr.

Overall, my razr is a good phone aside from the fact the camera is not good at all(reminds me of my Droid X) and
it gets laggy every once and awhile.

I see that Target Mobile has the Nexus for 29.99 plus a free samsung dock with it.

What I'm looking for
1. Decent/Good Camera----I've heard mixed results on the Nexus Camera
2. Fast- Little to no lag

I'm aware of the "signal problem" with the Nexus but i really want the phone for it's big screen.

My question for you all is would you still buy this phone today with all that you guys know about it? Taking out the fact it is a pure google phone
which is why most if not all of you brought it, what are the features besides the fact that it is pure android that made you buy it and would you buy it
now or do you recommend I keep the Droid razr or aim for the Rezound(Awesome camera but i dislike htc sense) or new Droid Razr M?

Honestly, I'd buy either the Nexus or the RAZR M out of those choices. The original RAZR is not in the same league as the Nexus (the MAXX is, though).

Unless I'm missing something, the MAXX is the RAZR with a 3300mAh battery. I know people who've had problems with their gnex signal quality have found the MAXX a better alternative, but that aside, a MAXX seems like quite a downgrade from a properly working gnex. If you're all about battery life, I'd rather have a spare removable battery or an extended battery. Not to mention custom kernel folks have reported 20+hrs. I got 15+hrs streaming Pandora 9+hrs and light use otherwise the one time I tried not to charge it all day (stock battery). Not trying to bash the MAXX, just throwing out my two cents that I feel I could back up with facts.

I have the Nexus and am happy with it, I would not trade it for a Razr. I am interested in the Razr Maxx HD though. Pictures are snappy and not laggy on the Nexus

My wife has the White Razr (original), and I have the Galaxy Nexus. I can tell you, the Razr is a bit peppier. I love my Galaxy Nexus, but if I had to do it all over again, I would get the Razr

Peppier? The Razr? That's a new one

I have the RAZR and I must say it gets extremely laggy about once a day but I think it's a motocast or lookout thing. Not the phones fault but poorly written apps that don't know how to run.

I see it as it depends on what you need. If you want an extremely reliable phone and would take use of the Web Dock or lap dock then the RAZR is your best bet but if you want a better screen, the newest updates and live in a good coverage area then the nexus is a great device for you. Neither of them have stunning cameras but it would honestly be hard to get any worse than the RAZR and what drives me crazy about the RAZR is that since the display isn't HD it makes the pictures only 6mp to match the display. However for me the Web Dock makes up for all the issues, that is the single best feature of this phone and if you have an extra monitor with an HDMI port its awesome for when at work or when just trying to do some work at the house because I can watch videos from YouTube, netflix, or any other Android app and still have access to text messages and calls. Amazing when in need of some entertainment and don't want to pay for a Google tv or Nexus q.

yeah I'm noticing the phone is rather laggy now. Idk what changed in it but it has gotten laggy over the past 24 hours.

I like blur but blur makes it slow in my opinion

How do you figure? The original razr is closer to the nexus in terms of battery life, other than that the maxx is the same phone, except I can last 3 times as long as a nexus.

Screen, software, CPU (GN is underclocked, RAZR/MAXX overclocked), hardware/software integration, development, user support, Google support, impact on Android, etc. all favor the Nexus. Further, the design of the Nexus, while being subjective, is better for my tastes. RAZR is rock solid though and the kevlar is a very nice touch IMO.

The only reason I'd get a MAXX is for battery life and radios. The regular RAZR presents only one of those advantages (radios), and for my tastes, uses, etc., it's not even close.

I mean they're all decent phones, but in no way is the RAZR (regular old RAZR) on the Nexus's level.

I wouldn't say it is no way on the same level. What if you just wanted a smartphone that could get good signal, take semi ok pictures and that was almost indestructible? Thats pretty much the description of the Razr and seeing as the Razr has a successor the prices are going to drop fast and you might be able to get some stellar deals!

True, but what if you wanted the latest software, better internals, a better screen, cutting edge hardware-software integration, and a fairly radical design? :p

See, it cuts both ways really, IMO. I went through this very decision last fall/winter and I just found no scenario where anything inside of me would "yearn" for a RAZR. The Nexus on the other hand? Oh baby :).

But on some levels, this is all highly subjective. Aside from the specs. ;)

Imo my maxx is just as smooth and has less hangup than my nexus did. Just because it was a superior device in terms of cpu doesn't actually mean much..

I'm embarrassed to admit this.... but I didn't know a pure Google nexus existed on Vzn when I was shopping...

The salesman showed me to the razr when I asked about what a good smartphone was... I pointed out a different phone that had a sweet looking screen that caught my eye...he told me the name and I liked the way it was setup, how it ran, and that it had ICS.. wasn't until I saw the Google logo after buying and booting I understood why nexus was in the name.... no regrets here!
(Ironically I actually think the amoled plus is better except the resolution is noticeably lower)

It should be, it doesn't power an HD screen. Although, you haven't tasted the sweetness that is Jelly Bean :).

If it's the original Razr, Gnex no contest. If you're looking at the MAXX, then the added battery life makes this a bit of a closer match.

Ugh now I'm looking at the xperia ion on att. It has ics now.

Motorola promised the update or $100 and I think I read on a couple websites the RAZR would be getting the update its just no time frame was given. But I'm not looking for it until after Christmas because the RAZR HD series isn't even slated to get it until end of 2012.
