Droid to get Android 2.1 update

Its so close. I really wish there was more info on this update. Seems Google is better than RIM as far as leaking info goes.:p

Yeah, more info is always better than less imo. Hopefully this will speak good for Motorola/Google in terms of problem fixing and general updates for the future.

For sure!!
That was one of my biggest pet peeves with RIM. They always act so secretive about everything they're working on, and just take forever to release anything that would improve on their products... regardless if it had bugs or not (come on now... nothing is perfect).

So far, I'm very impressed with Google's/Android's support on their products. I just hope it doesn't grow stagnant.

Google has an opportunity to steal some of RIM's market by being more responsive and open about updates and fixes and to capture a big portion of the growing consumer smartphone market. The competition will hopefully force RIM to change its game plan. Even though I have no plans for returning to a BB for a personal phone (my employer-provided phone is a Curve), competition breeds innovation, and vice versa, which is good for everyone.

Having waited thru the whole Palm Pre fiasco, I can tell you, Motorola did it right. We had Pre leaks everywhere for months, then once it was announced, more and more idle speculation....to the point that when it showed up, it could not live up to the hype. Droid just appeared. Amazing. Just touched one, very impressive.

Hopefully this update brings that rock solid reliability. Love my droid. It does crazy things and I wouldn't go back to BB, but I do miss that feeling of complete reliability that I (in my experience with my curve and then tour - not my storm 1) had when I had a BB. Don't get me wrong. It's close, but it's still not quite as quick/simple/reliable - (ie- can't select large groups of emails, have to uncheck the checked emails after marking as read to switch to the other gmail account, corporate sync is not perfect, losing data connection randomly, and other small kinks)

It says Moto Droid and HTC Eris are getting updated on Dec 11. I can understand Droid because it's plain Android 2.0 but the Eris is running Sense so it's not as cut and dry and needs to come from HTC. There have been rumors surrounding a Hero update but I think this is a little presumptuous.

Really looking forward to this update. I'm a ex-BlackBerry Storm user, and completely satisfied with the Moto Droid. -Can't wait to see how much more functionality & performance they can get out of this phone!

I read an article about a week ago of a leaked photo with a HTC Hero running 2.1 with SenseUI. The speculation in the article was that HTC was waiting on the release of 2.1 before updating the Eris, and just skipping the 2.0 update.

I just hope it makes the droid more stable... I've had too many force closes on texting... almost seems like it's too short of a "wait" timer, cause if I choose "wait" after another 5secs things usually work again.

What exactly does this update Bring? I mean its just " .1 " more, haha! Are we talking huge software changes or really just a behind the scenes thing?

Try a program called touchdown. It's a replacement exchange client and there's a 5-day trial version in the Market. It has quite a bit of the features some Blackberry users seem to ask about: Ability to categorize, color code, delete multiple emails, save attachments, signatures etc. It can even customize the led color according to notification type. It's only $10. Personally I think it's too cheap considering the features it has.
