Droid X 2.2.1 issue - phone reboots when plugged into pc

Ok, I successfully downloaded the update on Sunday morning and everything has been business as usual until I got to work this morning. I have the desktop charger and when I plug it into it, my phone reboots. It doesn't do it if I have the usb to charge only, but even if the phone is already plugged in and I change it to mass storage, it will reboot. I tried unplugging the usb cable from the dock and just plugging it in that way, and same thing. Also, after it reboots, it doesnt recognize that it is connected. I have to unplug and then plug it back it before it sees that it is in mass storage mode. Anyone else having this issue.

Sometimes when we get updates it makes a mess. I always wipe data and cache before installing. Try and wipe both in recovery and see if that helps. You will haave t set up the phone again.

^^^^^^^^ agreed

try wiping cache and data in recovery and if that doesnt work you will need to do a factory reset.

just a tip: once you wipe cache and data try it to see if it is fixed before you set everything up. if you need to do a factory reset do the same and try it before you set it all up again

When you say wipe cache and data in recovery, does that mean going through all my apps individually and clearing the cache for them. And how do I know if I'm in recovery? Sorry if these are dumb questions by the way.

no. you need to power off your phone.

hold the home button

press the power button

when you see an android with an exclamation mark press the search button

use the volume down key to scroll down to wipe cache/data then the camera button to select ok

disregard my prior post. While wiping my data cache did help with the smoothness and responsiveness of my phone, as soon as I got to work and plugged it into my computer via usb, it froze, and rebooted. It only does it with my pc though, not the wall charger. I really want to avoid doing a factory reset because I hate having to re-sign into all my apps again. I use LP so setting up home screens in no big deal and Im not rooted because no matter how many times, I read how to do it, I never can. Or else I'd use titanium backup and probably not be having this problem.

It seems to be an issue or bug with the devices now, a lot of people have said the reset fixes it, others say it stays the same.

Have you tried a battery pull? Battery out one minute minimum, back in, turn on. Should be done after any major upgrade in the OS.
