I've taken a good look at the Droid X and would like it to be my next smartphone, however, I have a great many concerns. So I'm hoping all you Android experts would be willing to help me out some.

As the title implies I have a Mac and what I need is a smartphone that can sync my Address Book, Calendar, To Dos, e-mails, photos, videos etc. The bottom line...if I can't find a way to sync all of these things there's no point in getting a Droid X.

I had fairly negative experiences with Mark/Space for Blackberry so I'm not so enthused about going that route.

I use MobileMe and am not entirely thrilled about having to switch my whole life over to Google products. Not that Google is a bad thing...but I've noticed a real dearth of offline capability since they stopped supporting Google Gears.

I've tried experimenting with syncing my Mac to Google with some limited success but I really prefer one stop shopping so I'm not certain where to go from here.

I'm hoping that some of you good folks are also Mac users and that you've made the switch to Droid X. If so, what solutions have you uncovered regarding compatibility and syncing. Like I said...I want to be able to do everything as simply as possible and not over complicated my life any. being able to have everything in one place is pretty crucial.

So should I drop MobileMe and go all Google? Are there apps that are of particular use? Should I find a syncing program.

I invite everyone to take a stab at this and thank you in advance for your generosity and assistance.

Different OS's don't play well together, i'm an Apple user but not a At&t fan, so i was never interested in an iPhone. I have all Apple computers, but use ANDROID with VERIZON.

The object of systems is to get you hooked/involve with their OS, then the option for change because to confusing and/or a hassle to switch/change over... so its easier to stay with who you have/involve with... i.e email. syncs, contacts, calenders and so on.

My Mac emails i check using my Computer, if you need emails instantly i would look to forward your emails to your Gmail account/cell phone or, notify certain contacts to email you @ your Gmail address for communication.

I don't use emails for business, just socially, so most of my communications go through calls/TEXT messages.

MobileMe and Google have many great options to stay in touch away from your computer and cell.

I haven't found a need to totally commit to one or the other... yet.

I have had no problem using my Mac and Droid X together. I sync my Mac Calendar to my Google Calendar automatically and have my Droid X capture my Mac Mail using the IMAP server so I have access to all my e-mail folders on my phone. I have been using EverNote to sync my notes with my phone and my Mac. Doubletwist syncs my Itunes account with my phone. The only thing which I have not been syncing between the two is my To Dos. I have yet to find a good program to do this and I do not want to pay big money for Missing Sync.

Doubletwist is a must, other than that, it's not as "difficult" with a Mac as you think. I don't think anything will be as smooth as the iphone and mac, simply because they were made for each other. If google had it's own syncing program that had everything, like an iTunes version of Android or something, that might be great. Until then, doubletwist gets it done.

Have a Mac that I share with my other half. She uses Apple's e-mail and another e-mail system and I use Gmail. Calender is in my phone(personal) and ipod contains my music which wouldn't fit anywhere else. (100+gb)

I'm a HUGE Mac guy and made the leap from an iPhone 3G to the Droid X.

The simple answers are:

1) Sync your iCal with Google Calendar (very simple to do) and you can update your calendar: on the web, from iCal, and on the phone. Changes are close to instantaneous for these changes.

2) Enable Address Book to sync with Gmail. Again, simple - check the box in Address Book's settings and put in your gmail info and it will sync. Then make sure the phone syncs with Gmail for contacts and your stuff will be there.

3) Get iSyncr for $2.99 from the Market. That will get iTunes stuff to the phone. It's simple and better than Doubletwist. I tried Doubletwist and it's a POS - doesn't integrate with iTunes playlists (must keep them in both places), slow, and just seems not good.

4) E-mail. IMAP on the DX is broken as it won't delete mails on the server from the Handset. HUGE mistake. Download K9 or MailDroid and use that. With IMAP your e-mail is synced from computer to server and things you read on the phone will show as read on your computer, things deleted will get deleted, etc. Most IMAP Servers will let you get your email instantly like a Blackberry.

#'s 1-3 are easy, #4 depends on your e-mail provider as not all support IMAP. But this has been working out great for me. I tried Missing Sync and while it was OK, it was not good and I wanted to stick with things "in the cloud" so I could update anywhere and have it sync to my phone.

So far it's been a learning curve but I finally disconnected my iPhone Sunday and I'm married to this thing for the next 2 years.
