Droid X doesn't ring, only vibrates on incoming calls

Reposting the fixed that worked for me so nobody has to go search!

"Well, as everyone else, I got the dreaded "no ring of death" using the "Smart Profile: Face Down" feature. However, I was able to fix it pretty simply, although I've only done it once due to fear that I won't be successful in another attempt. What I did was really easy.

1. Make sure that the "Smart Profile: Face Down" feature is enabled.
2. Hold the phone face up in your palm.
3. Call yourself from another phone.
4. As the phone is vibrating, DO NOT ANSWER.
5. Still holding the phone, flip the phone face down as it vibrates.
6. Then, flip the phone back over so that it's facing up.
7. End the call from the phone you are calling from.

After I did those steps, I left the phone face up and called myself again, and then it was finally ringing! May have been a fluke, but if it worked for me, it may work for some of you as well. I promptly went back into settings and disabled the Smart Profile: Face Down feature. Hope this helps, good luck to all of you."

Many people including me have had this technique work. It doesn't always work the first time, I had better luck after doing the above steps right after a battery pull. Others have had it work the second, third or tenth time they tried. Its worth doing several times to avoid the time involved in restoring from a factory reset..at least it was for me.

I tried something similar (see link below):

The shortcoming of the description from that post is that you need to flip the phone over relatively quickly. From phone face up to phone face down back to phone face up, while in your hand, about as quickly are you can read what I just wrote. (Note that some people emphasize that you need to make sure the phone is level (setting it on a table will not be level because of the camera hump) when flipping it back to face up.)

I had tried every combination I could think of (based on other posts than the one I have above) over the course of a couple days, spending at least a couple hours fighting to get this darned phone perform its most basic function correctly (act as a phone). I would wait for it to start vibrating, then turn it over for a couple vibrations (thinking that was needed for the phone to "register" the change in attitude) and then flip it back. The phone would just keep vibrating.

However, when I tried it by doing the "flip, flip" method, the phone STOPPED vibrating, but the screen still indicated an incoming call was waiting. THEN I knew it was fixed. I hung up and sure enough when I called my cell again it started ringing and has ever since.

Oh, needless to say I unchecked the facedown vibrate setting and have kept it on the Smart Profile with no problems so far (OK, only a few hours now). It's nice to be back to loving my DX... :D

I had a Droid x and must say it worked great for a few months then the ringtones would never play only vibrate and then the same happened for text messages. I tried to resolve it but I never had any luck. Glad to see a solution out there though.

The other day my DX just stopped ringing when receiving calls. When i get a call the phone will vibrate but will not ring no matter how high the volume is. I tried each and every setting I can think of to get it back working. Anyone have any suggestions?
