The other day my DX just stopped ringing when receiving calls. When i get a call the phone will vibrate but will not ring no matter how high the volume is. I tried each and every setting I can think of to get it back working. Anyone have any suggestions?

I searched the forums here, and the most common remedy was to actually 'reset' the phone under settings>privacy>factory data reset. You loose all of your info, but it fixes the problem.

Motorola has acknowledged a bug in the Smart Profile Setting. If you used the face down vibrate setting. It could be your problem.

They have a warning about it on their user forum, and a huge thread with a few procedures that have worked for a few, but not worked for most. You might give it a shot before the Factory Reset.

I tried all that stuff none of it works, crappy bug if you ask me. It's a pretty big deal, one of the biggest functions of your phone... the phone component has a bug and it's not fixed yet. Crazy.

I had this issue and had to do a reset to get it to go back and ring, I had my call sensor settings since day one set to double tap to silence and smart profile face down without any problems. I believe this issue was triggered when I downloaded Quick Settings. It's a great application but I think when I used to for the ringer settings it is what caused this issue.

Search on my user name. I posted instructions on how to fix this, different then those linked above, I found on the moto forums in another thread on this topic. Or on the main moto thread it was post 117 I think.

Reposting the fixed that worked for me so nobody has to go search!

"Well, as everyone else, I got the dreaded "no ring of death" using the "Smart Profile: Face Down" feature. However, I was able to fix it pretty simply, although I've only done it once due to fear that I won't be successful in another attempt. What I did was really easy.

1. Make sure that the "Smart Profile: Face Down" feature is enabled.
2. Hold the phone face up in your palm.
3. Call yourself from another phone.
4. As the phone is vibrating, DO NOT ANSWER.
5. Still holding the phone, flip the phone face down as it vibrates.
6. Then, flip the phone back over so that it's facing up.
7. End the call from the phone you are calling from.

After I did those steps, I left the phone face up and called myself again, and then it was finally ringing! May have been a fluke, but if it worked for me, it may work for some of you as well. I promptly went back into settings and disabled the Smart Profile: Face Down feature. Hope this helps, good luck to all of you."

I removed Quick Settings from my phone and I am once again using the smart sensor settings and not having the problem again, did anyone else with this problem also download Quick Settings or a similar application? I use beautiful widgets silent and vibrate flawlessly.

I had the problem and ended up doing all the different techniques that were suggested in the Motorola forum thread (flipping it over, trying to make it level, shaking it, etc.) and after numerous attempts of each technique I turned my X off and on and the problem went away. I then unchecked the smart sensor options and am happy that my phone has been ringing ever since.

Any news on this? I am having the same problem, and none of the workarounds are working for me. Thinking it may be worth it just to wait for Froyo at this point.

What does a factory reset do exactly? Do I lose everything?

I have this bug, I'm trying various things. I might try the leaked Froyo before a factory reset.

Edit: I fixed it, I was trying all the fixes and it eventually worked.

I think I rebooted, did the call and flip-flop, then it paused the vibrating, that was the signal. Of course I tried it like ten times before it worked.
