In a sense, yes. The update is downloaded and stored on the root or your sd card as "Update.zip". When you boot into recovery, be sure to wipe the cache partition, and then just select "apply sd card update". Boom. Gb. I did this about an hour or so ago and it's running very very well.

Enjoy

yeah, i just added the update to my stock dx. I was rooted, but I just defrosted all the apps I froze, and then un-rooted. If you dont do that it would all you to update. If you havnt done anything like that, just kept it the same since you bought it then it couldnt get any easier.

I cant get it to download tells me after i get the file on my phone that it cant be downloaded,,,

The only way I got it to download was to dl it through my pc and then transfer it to my phone.

I did this and now it keeps rebooting. What should I do?

What exactly did you do? If you downloaded the update via your pc and the I transferred it to your phone, you should have rebooted into recovery, wiped cache, then apply sd card update.

I did this on a non-rooted x and everything went swimmingly.

If you're rooted, follow the constructions here:

Good luck.

Forgive my ignorance on this question but: How do you upgrade to GB if you've never rooted? I have the most recent ota Froyo build installed currently. All I seem to be able to find are instructions on how to upgrade rooted phones,

I did all that but didn't "wipe my cash".

I'd try to dl the update again. Could've been a bad download. Make sure the file is saved as "Update.zip" on the root of your sd card and try again, this time , wipe cache partition if it still doesn't work, try a factory wipe and cache wipe and then attempt the update again. If still no progress, follow the link that I posted above and as was posted earlier in the thread for files needed to go back to 2.2.1(2.3.340).

Okay, not to beat a dead horse here but, I have a rooted x running stock froyo, I would like to be able to root again after I update, so... Do I download the full stock version and do I just need to unroot first with z4root? Sorry guys, thanks!!

  • download this file
    Get Update.zip on Wupload.com
  • place on the root directory of your SD card, and then turn off your phone
  • While the phone is off hold the HOME and POWER buttons at the same time until it turns on
  • After a few seconds you will see the android logo/guy and what looks like triangle alert symbol behind him.
  • When you see the logo press the SEARCH key
  • If you placed the linked file (update.zip) in the root directory you should see it listed, use the volume up/down keys to highlight it and then press the camera button to select it, and it should start from there. When done it will say update is complete and just select "reboot".

I see some people are saying to clear your cache, but I didnt and everything went fine.

i dont know if you have to but I unrooted, and unfroze any programs that i tried to freeze, because it wouldnt let me update with them frozen. So I would say just remove your root and that should get to pretty much back to stock, its what I did and it worked.

And what about getting root again? Or is this a rooted version?

no, this is not a rooted version. I am new to android and have only had the phone for less than a week, and still dont understand all this root stuff, im kind of just learning as I go along. From what I saw though some of the versions are rooted, so my guess is that it is already possible (i just dont know how yet), or it will happen soon.

I need help! I reset back to stock and reactivated my phone. So my main google account isn't letting me buy from the market (for the bootstrap for droid 2). It is brian@excelsisstudios.com which is from my domain but is handled by gmail. When I first got my phone it made me sign up for a gmail account to "buy" with. So now with the gmail account, it isn't showing any apps that I have bought in the past but will let me buy apps and with the excelsisstudios account, it shows apps that I bought in the past but I can't buy with that account. It's as if the 2 accounts worked in together. Not sure what to do now... I hope that wasn't too confusing!

Well, I did everything and I think it worked. The fonts in the status bar are a little different but how do I know for sure I have Gingerbread now??

UPDATE:

Pretty sure it worked. I am having some issues with screen lockage and force closes. Is this normal? Is there something else I need to do t remedy the slowness/lock-up problem?
