Droid X Gingerbread update

I guess I don't understand. How could you not transfer it via your computer and/or not download it as a zip? Unless there's an issue with your sd card (you wouldn't be able to access the gallery) or you don't have the appropriate drivers loaded for the phone, it should work.

But then again, computers and phones alike are great, when they work properly. Haha

yeah, no clue. i think my phone just doesn't like to dl files from wupload.com or whatever the link is. I can dl other files no problem from other sites such as rapidshare, etc. so... anyone wanna upload the update.zip to a different site? lol

these instructions were perfect. than you. easy to follow and ridiculously easy to do. I'm really enjoying the update, and highly recommend that anyone reading this thread and thinking about doing it go ahead and do it immediately!

Agreed. I followed the same instructions and was able to download and install the update on my unrooted droid x. I wiped out the cache too then installed the update per the instructions and wow is all I gotta say. This update runs great on my phone, and everything feels snappier. I'm digging the new blue (tron like?) notification bar, looks slick.

Thanks all for this thread and good job!

I had no problem either. Seems they keyboard is a little laggy but that's being petty. I like the notification bar too.

Forgive my stupidity on the topic... I'm running the .588 build that leaked a while back, I'm not so much interested in root or anything like that, so how would I go about applying the official GB update to my device?

Because all Droid x owners were part of the initial release. Vzw pushes updates in waves, thus not everyone at the same time gets the update. The download is official, it was just pulled from a user's phone and put on a file sharing site. That's the only difference. You may absolutely wait for the ota, but there's really no defined time that all users will get it, hence why vzw is releasing the update for manual download on the 1st.

Ah, I see. The whole link and recovery talk made me think back to when I was rooted and experimenting with roms and such. I know there has been a leak of GB floating around for awhile. I since decided that I had no use for that stuff at this time and decided to go back and do everything stock. Thanks for the reply. It explanes a lot.

Installed the rooted update from Froyo z4root. I uninstalled my old wireless tether app, installed the new 3.0 pre 14 app, works fine?? Seriously hope that doesnt change. Didn't need to patch hotspot or freeze the status bar like I've been reading in some posts.

I couldn't get the new one to work. It would only load google.com and that was rare.

Not to sound like a jerk, but this has been answered couple of times. There is a link on page 2 I believe that explains how to do it.

EDIT: I apologize, it was the first page. here's the link for those of you who missed it.

I'm not rooted, coming from stock Froyo and I'm trying to do the update and when i get to the recovery screen, I wipe cache then click on apply sdcard: update.zip. Then it says "E: signature verification failed". Any help will be appreciated.

Hahah happy flashing. What a trend that would be to start in the Android Community. NO unlocked bootloaders VZ?? Fine! wag wag wag wag,lol

Anyway good to see this thread blowing up and everyone getting some GB love that hadn't had it previously. I think you will be enjoying it for a while now. At least until its time for some ice cream sandwiches.

Actually those were the instructions I followed, and I'm getting an "Installation Failed" error. I'm just a little unclear on whether I downloaded the correct file or not.

Possibly. If you're not rooted and stock, you'll need the "full stock" "signed" file. Just to be safe, that's the one I did and om doing great over here.

I downloaded the zip file to my Mac, hooked up my DX and transferred the file to the root on the SD card, followed the afore mentioned steps and got the failed message again. WTH??? Do I need to do something totally different or just wait until VZW actually releases this? Getting frustrated with this...should not be this difficult.

I had the same problem when I downloaded the zip file from wupload. I found a zip file from megaupload, downloaded it and it worked perfectly. I'm not rooted so if you aren't either heres the link:

Do I have to go back to stock in order to get the OTA? I keep checking "about phone" to see if it pushes through and still nothing.

Just want to prepare if I need to do a fresh restore on my phone first

If you want to receive the update OTA, then, yes, you need to go back to stock. Otherwise you have to follow one of the manual update paths.
