Hey Guys - After installing 2.2, I get the slide lock first and then i have to choose b/w pattern or a PIN. So, basically I have two locks. Is there a way to disable it? I just want a slide lock, like it was in v2.1. Anyway to do it?

Providing you know the PIN or Pattern you can disable that by going into Location and Security and Set up screen lock.

If you dont know it and you had a corp exchange account set up before you did the update I would factory reset your device and without a corp exchange added apply the update.

Thanks. I tried that but I'm not left with the any screen lock then. The power button works as a lock but the phone unlocks if the home key is pressed, and that has caused unnecessary unlocks a couple of times. I just want my phone to be on the slide lock mode when power button is pressed - just like it used to be in 2.1. Any idea how that is possibe? Thanks.

You dont have the slide lock now?

My home button will wake the phone up but not unlock it.

No, i don't get an option of only slide lock. I have to chose none, pattern, pin or password. And if i chose any of the last 3, i get slide lock added to it automatically. No idea why that happens!

If i chose none, then i don't get any screen lock - just the power button which can work as lock/unlock but then it unlocks when you hit the home key, unlike yours.

Choose none. I just did and it turned off my PIN security. I still have slide to unlock. I chose it again and I still have slide to unlock.

If yours is still doing it then something is wonky with your device and I suggest doing a factory reset.

Set Up Screen Lock is seperate from slide to unlock.

I tried that, but it didn't worked. Same thing happened, if i chose none, then i don't get the slide to unlock anymore. Are you on 2.2 as well? No idea why it doesn't appear on my phone!

did you have the slide lock disabled before the update? if that is the case, thats why youre having the issue. a hard reset should fix it

Yeah, i thought so as well. I did had it disabled before the update. By hard reset you mean I loose all my data and go back to factory settings? I am not sure how that would work. :s

That would restore it back to the state in which you recieved the phone. In effect re enabling the slide to unlock. Make sure it is enabled before you apply to Froyo update.

Only thing you will loose are your apps. I suggest you go to AppBrain.com and make an account and backup your apps. Your contacts can be backed up via the phone or google. Your emails and such will simply resync. Your SD card will be fine, you can take it out if you like but theres no need.

Heres your answer to clear things....
DROID X - Security Lock / Unlock

Users that are security conscious can set a "Pattern" lock or a Passcode as a Security lock to secure their handset. There are also a number of applications available on marketplace that can add additional security measures.

* If using Microsoft Exchange / Corporate sync, you will only be able to use Passcode lock. The option to change Security Lock type to Pattern lock will be greyed out.
* Screen lock for DROID X Froyo users (SW version 2.3.15) is a permanent feature. You will not have option to turn "Screen lock" (the simple swipe from left to right when display is dimmed) either OFF or ON your handset.
*
o If your DROID X handset had "Screen lock" turned off and you upgraded your handset to 2.3.15 Froyo update, you will not have the option in settings to turn it back on again because the ability to turn that feature on / off was removed.

o If you want to restore the "Screen lock" option in this scenario, you will need to perform a Factory Data Reset to set the handset to default 2.3.15 behavior. After the reset, you should have your "Screen lock" restored, but correct operation going forward will be that "Screen lock" is a feature that is permanently on.
* If using a Security lock (passcode, pattern, or passcode), you will also need to unlock the Screen lock when the display dims ot the top button is pressed.

You will need your Gmail / Google Account credentials to reset either security lock, so please do not set a security lock on your handset without first setting up a valid Gmail/Google Account you can remember and access.
