Droid X Media Player - does the Droid X have Cover Flow?

I am considering purchasing a Droid X and wanted to know about the Media Player. Specifically - I wanted to know if the music player that comes on the phone has an iTunes/Apple style cover flow album cover jukebox UI? This is a big deal for me as I use my phone as a MP3 player. I love the Droid X - but need this feature to be included.

Also - any other features I should know about? Speaker quality, volume control/sensitivity.

If anyone has pictures of the media interface I would appreciate it. I have been searching on line for days and can't find anything that shows a cover flow style interface and I am concerned that the Droid X is lacking this feature.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Also - are there other classier wall paper's other than the stock Droid eye wall paper?

I can't comment on cover flow, but I am willing to bet there's other music apps you can get to fulfill this void. As far as vanilla music player goes, I wouldn't hold my breathe to find out it doesn't have it.

As far as speaker quality, don't plan on using them for music. Either get decent headphones or if you're home plug them into your speaker system. The speaker quality is poor at best; no bass, very low volume and very treble-y.

Volume control with my crumby $15 pair of Sony headphones is very good. It goes from very quiet to "more than loud enough." Sensitivity wise, I feel as if the first half of the volume meter is underwhelming, and second half is overwhelming. Am I the only one who feels that way? As soon as I close in on the last 25% of the top portion of volume meter the volume seems to jump higher un-proportionately compared to the rest of the lower volume control.

I will say this, when I plug in my headphones and load up Pandora, this phone instantly replaces my brand new Zune HD 64GB I bought back in April :( great that the tech is so awesome, not so great that I invested $300+ into a device that has extreme limitations when placed next to my daily use cell phone...

So it sounds like you have the Droid X but you can't comment about cover flow. Why not? If you have the phone - can't you pull up the media player and see if your albums come up in a juke box (cover flow) format or not. I am interested in how this phone works right out of the box.

Anyone else out there have this phone and tell me about the MP3 player - and its file management system. I really like the juke box style cover flow that Apple has and was hoping the latest Droid would have it as well.

Sorry can't comment for sure on cover flow because I do not have any mp3s copied over to the phone, and have no need to. I use Pandora and that's about it for my music needs.

As I said, can't comment on that. Only able to help with the other parts.

Gotcha. Thanks. What about the wall paper...anything a little bit more EVO or iPhone like in its appearance. I love the Droid X and will most likely buy one to trade in my Storm1 but am not a huge fan of the red eye.

With so many Droid X users in here - I am shocked no one knows about the cover flow media player that I am asking about? Looking for advice. Anyone? Maybe a better way of asking the question would be - how does the Droid X display cover art in the media player? Is it like the iPhone or some other way?

In terms of making the Droid X look like an iphone or an Evo (by which you mean the Sense UI) either is quite possible through the market (there's at least a dozen iPhone themes, both free and not, and using LauncherPro Plus plus Beautiful Widgets lets you recreate a very similar UI to Sense).

As it ships the X does not have cover-flow; it's player is certainly competent at letting your organize and play music (and it lets you make playlists right on the phone...something iPhone users had to wait for iOS4 to get), but it does not have an out-of-the-box coverflow-style browser. That said, once again the open nature of Android means all you have to do is hop on to the market and you can find apps that should support it.

Honestly I don't know; I know there was a version for the older Motorola's (Milestone) music player, and a search of the web showed lots of widgets and stuff doing it. I imagine one problem is that Apple probably copyrighted "Coverflow" as a name so it would have to be called something else. Personally, I'm waiting for Gmusic this fall before I do much more than drop a few mp3s onto my phone. Hopefully a bigger mobile music fan can step up and answer the specifics.

No surprise that Apple copyrighted "coverflow" But I know RIM has a version coming out soon with OS6 - and hoped that Android also had a version - as it is much slicker than the standard text file managment system that my BlackBerry Storm1 uses. I was hoping for something better on the Droid. If it isn't there I will download a media player...but was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

No cover flow right out of the box. I have not searched for any apps for it yet.
I also came from a storm 1 you will not be disappointed.

Heh, I'm another Storm 1 expatriot. Gotta say I'm loving it, and I'm sorry I can't be more helpful with the cover-flow search, but I'm sure it's either out there somewhere, or else it will be made (I saw several discussions showing that it isn't too hard...and the image gallery on the Droid X does use the same concept).

I use a couple media players. Both DoubleTwist and the Cubed (3) player (beta) will download cover art. The double twist app syncs with iTunes as well and from what I hear ppl are pleased with it (i prefer drag & drop to move my music). Google DoubleTwist for Android for more info. Many apps are available on un-'official' markets so you can check out the reviews and screenshots without having an Android phone. Also try Appbrain.com. This is a web-based Market that syncs with the Android Market. If you have (or get) a gmail account you can probably search there without needing an Android. If none of that works I can try and send u more info so just pm me. Love the X. Music sounds great thru my car and home stereos as well as my headphones. Much better thn my iPod Touch which I am ALWAYS trying to adjust to get decent sound.

There is an album view that is cover-flow-ish. I've attached a pic of it (I know it looks like crap, but should give you an idea). Just flip the phone to landscape while looking at albums, and you can scroll through it.

It's just like the landscape view of the camera pictures/gallery in landscape mode.

Looks cool...is this standard or an app you loaded?
