I use Next SMS messaging app
I only want starred contacts who text or call to come thru.

No calls are getting thru. But, all text notifications are coming thru with DND turned on.

In Android settings, I have under DND, ONLY starred contacts checked. And, under settings and notifications, and sound and the app itself... I believe I have everything excluded from making a notification sound... But, I still get the n text notification.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Have you looked in the Next SMS settings for anything that might affect this?

I asked Google and got this page of things to look at.
It's frustrating when Do Not Disturb (DND) doesn't work as expected with text messages, especially from specific apps like Next SMS. Here's a breakdown of possible reasons and solutions, particularly for Android devices, which Handcent NextSMS is designed for:
1. Check your DND settings for exceptions

  • Allowed Apps: Your DND settings likely have a section for allowing specific apps to bypass DND and send notifications. Make sure Next SMS (or your default messaging app) isn't accidentally included in this "allowed" list.
  • Allowed Contacts/People: Similarly, check for allowed contacts who can bypass DND. If the sender is listed as an exception, their texts will come through even if you have DND on.
  • Message Exceptions: Some Android versions allow you to permit message notifications to break through DND, while silencing calls and other apps. Verify that this setting isn't enabled for text messages or the messaging app you're using.
2. Review Next SMS's notification settings
  • Override Do Not Disturb: Some apps have a setting within their own notification preferences that allows them to override DND. Look in Next SMS's notification settings for an option like "Override Do Not Disturb" and ensure it's turned off.
  • App-Specific Notification Settings: You might need to examine the granular notification settings within Next SMS. Look for specific categories of notifications (e.g., "new messages," "group messages") and ensure their importance or behavior when DND is enabled is set to a "silent" or "no interruption" mode.
3. Test your DND settings
  • Test Mode/Sending Yourself a Message: Try sending yourself a text message from another phone while DND is active to verify if the settings are working correctly.
  • Review your Android's DND schedules: If you're using scheduled DND, double-check the times you've set to ensure it's active during the periods you want to silence notifications.
4. Reset or restart
  • Reset App Preferences: You might consider resetting app preferences (within your phone's general settings) if you're unable to pinpoint the issue. This can help resolve conflicting app settings.
  • Restart your phone: A simple restart can often resolve minor software glitches causing DND problems.
Important considerations
  • Android version: The exact menu options and wording for Do Not Disturb settings can vary slightly depending on your Android version and phone manufacturer.
  • "Time Sensitive" or "Critical Alerts": Some phone operating systems or messaging apps might have a category for "time sensitive" or "critical" alerts that can bypass DND. Ensure these aren't configured in a way that allows Next SMS messages through when you don't want them to.
By carefully reviewing and adjusting these settings on your Android device and within the Next SMS app, you should be able to prevent unwanted text messages from coming through when Do Not Disturb is enabled.

Let us know what you find.

Thank you VidJunky.

I will go over the detailed explanation you compiled for me to check..

I will report back.
