Droid X Multitouch Keyboard Complaint

When typing using the standard mutli-touch keyboard on the Droid X, I have noticed an annoying behavior that I'm wondering if anyone has a solution for.

When typing a sentence that contains quotes, it places the quote IMMEDIATELY after the previous letter, even if I've put a space. For instance, let's say I want to type:

He said "No, you can't"

If I typed this exact sentence on my Droid X without backspacing, it comes out like this:

He said" No, you can't"

Really annoying! I assume this comes from the keyboard's natural function to place a punctuation at the end of the previous sentence such as ! ? . , but for quotations this looks bad and is pretty irritating.

Is anyone else experiencing this and does anyone have a fix? Thanks!

I noticed the same thing. Whenever I type a symbol, it gets placed directly next to the previous character just as you described. But I guess it's okay because it would suck if I placed a comma right after a word and it got spaced.

Try disabling auto punctuation.

Auto punctuation only controls the period.

The proper way to write the first sentence would require a comma after the word "said". In that particular example this problem wouldn't occur.

However, the answer that devader gave is the only way to prevent this from happening.

Interesting. I haven't noticed this myself, but I guess either I haven't used so many quotation marks or I've always used the commas before quotes.

I should add, vile4ever, I am certainly no grammar expert, and my intent was not to correct you. I was just pointing out that the use of a comma, in those situations, will reduce how often you experience the problem you described.

Same thing happens with all symbols. Just my$ 0.02. See what i mean? Another thing that bothers me is that there is no auto correction for i. I've added I to the user defined dictionary and it still won't work.
