Droid X or Droid 2?

I'm not exactly the phone genie. I've had an Alias 2 since August 2009 and was pretty happy with it. I loved the ?E-Ink? keyboard. I like physical keyboards. I'm simple like that. I use my phone to call people, text message, and take pics (it?s my primary camera). That's it and I don't text or call much. I?m a college student.
Well, my brother is a totally different story. He?s mr. high-tech-gotta-have-it guru. At sixteen he is joined at the hip with his phone, so his girls can get ahold of him. He convinced my parents to get him--and themselves--all droid X's in August. Since then, I?ve used and admired the Internet feature many times. I've always watched my brother type and txt (and that ?swipe? thing? on it, where you sort of trace a line and it picks up a common and often incorrect word) and I don't like touch keyboards. I like typing without looking down. I feel like I can?t do that with a touch keyboard.
Anyways; for Christmas, my dad got me the Droid X. I wouldn't open it. Went to the Verizon store yesterday, and they told me that I can only get one return. Meaning if I return the X, my dad still pays a restocking fee, and I have to keep the next phone. I decided to just keep the X for now. Opened it and set it up today and it SCARES me! It just made a noise...I think it means I got a text but I'm not sure.
I?ve never been picky about my phones. But I really don't like touch keyboards. I like the keyboard on the droid 2, but I like that the X has higher megapixel camera. I will never use any of the crazy apps they have on either. I don?t play games on my phone. I also don?t like how massive the X is, nor the fact the rest of my family has it. I feel like one of those spoiled brats I go to university with when they whip out their blackberries!
I also am really tough on my phones..I DROP and sit on them a lot. But. Dad seemed like he would be upset if I returns the X and exchanged it? He said ?the DROID 2 SEEMS CHEAP WITH THAT SLIDER.?
I'm so confused..are they really THAT different aside from the keyboard? Help! Which one should I Get? Does the Droid 2 have any more problems than the X? Is it mere childs play compared to the X?

Both are good phones. You cannot go wrong with either. It's really if you want the bigger screen or smaller screen with keyboard. I have the DX and I love it. Both have the same processors, I believe. With any slide phone, the mechanism does have the ability to fail, not saying it would, but you can always bring it back to VZW and get it replaced.

I choose the DX because of the bigger screen and I won't use the keyboard.

droid x all the way... you will love the bigger screen when veiwing media, and it has hdmi out and an 8mp camera, droid 2 has only 5mp plus no hdmi... here check this link out

I would just keep the Droid X but it does seem that you don't need either. Once you start exploring with the phone you will find that it has many uses.

The X is a better, more advanced phone. You'll get completely used to the virtual keyboard. Try Swype for a few days (it's odd at first) and you'll be typing faster than ever.

Go to a VZW store and spend some time typing with the Droid 2. See if you do prefer the physical keyboard or if you can adjust to using Swype or one of the virtual keyboards on the Droid X. The Droid X build quality is outstanding, but since Moto makes the Droid 2, I'm sure it's not too shabby, either.

The build quality on the Droid 2 is remarkable too.and the only thing about going to the store to try the Droid 2 keyboard is that ogtaugal keyboards usually takes a few days to a week to get used to. So the OP probably won't know if he or she likes the keyboard until much later.

I have had the original Droid since November '09 and I still can't touch type with the physical keyboard.

It sounds like you don't want a smartphone at all though. You can send me your X

Maybe check out droid pro might be what your looking for it had a blackberry style keyboard and a touch screen. I my self have a droid x. But just go and play with all of them

Haha. No, I DO like the concept of being able to check email and get maps, internet, etc anywhere I go. Actually...it would save me a lot of hassle (like those countless text messages to cha cha trying to get phone numbers for business and restaurants), I just wont be playing angry birds or watching blockbuster or listening to the game on NFL mobile, ya know?
So I do want a smartphone, but I do feel guilty that my parents are paying for it.
I played with the Pro at the Verizon store. The screen is *holds up fingers to show size and says in best little kid voice* "dis bhiggg". The keyboard is very compact. It's like a blackberry in a droid's body, isn't it?
I liked that on the 2, (at least for the 5 minutes I fought the masses away and got to play with it at the store), that if i wanted to use the touch kepyboard for some reason, and browse the web and everything else, all i have to do is shut the phone.
Am I correct in thinking the 2 is just the X (when closed) with a smaller size and a keyboard attached to it? When did the 2 come out? And is there much a difference between the 2 and "global 2" (do they have the same processor and bells and whistles?)
Also, I've been looking on eBay, and am thinking buy a used 2, and that way dad could keep the X and I could switch and switch back if it was that horrific. But even the used ones are going for a couple hundred dollars

I have a Droid X and my wife has a Droid 2 so I have spent a lot of time with both. They are essentially the same phone except for screen size, keyboard, & a few features that you may not have a need for (like HDMI). They have the same processor, RAM, & ROM...so both will do all the same things just as quickly as the other.

If you think the X is too big for you, it probably is. My wife can't stand to use my phone because she says it is too big, she also really prefers a physical keyboard, something else you said was important to you. I would get the Droid 2 if I were you.

But, seriously, stick with the X. It's a great phone that will do as much (or as little) as you want it to do.

I have owned a Blackberry for alot of years and swore i would never own anything different, i received my Droid X yesterday and i can tell you, i wont go back to a Blackberry, i love the size of the screen, it runs faster and i really believe it is a better phone all around.

Good point! Yeah, I forgot that the D2G has a faster processor than the original D2. The OP can rub that in her techie brother's face that her phone is faster.

my thoughts exactly. my wife wanted a physical keyboard coming from a blackberry, so i got her a d2. guess what? she never uses the physical keyboard.

all 3 phones are great, it is a matter of what you like.

Slide-out keyboards are inconvenient. The keyboard on the Droid Pro is pretty good. I prefer touchscreen phones though (and I hate phones that have both soft and hard keyboards).
