Hi All,
I'm a new droid x owner and android operator, and I'm having a couple issues. I hope you can help me out with some of that experience you have. Pardon the long post, but I figured I'd spew out my tests, and let you separate the wheat from the chaff...
Here's the specs (let me know if you need more)
System Ver- 1.13.604.MB810.Verizon.en.US
Firmware ver - 2.1-update1
Here's the issues:
1) My number 1 issue is with my contacts. I was using a moto Q9M. When I first bought the X, the store was unable to transfer my contacts, saying their machine needed to be updated and it wouldn't be for some hours yet. I ended up going to another Verizon store, and the help associate warned me that they had some problems transferring from the Q9M, and went looking for “the guy who knew how to do it.” After a while my phone was brought back to me. They showed me all the contacts transferred, and I was happy....
Later, I noticed some problems when trying to add pictures to these contact details. I had no problems with doing this with contacts I manually added, but for those contacts it would appear to save the pic (existing and taken), but wouldn't show up. (and yes, I was hitting the save button.) (This appears to have been magically fixed, or maybe it was the overnight update.)
Then I realized I was having trouble seeing all of my contacts. It would appear to be 2 groups: manually entered, and transferred. I tested to see where I could see what:
Touching the person icon on the home screen = Default Verizon shortcuts (#BAL, etc) and the manually entered contacts (with pics.) No Transfers
Using the Contact Search app= All contacts (even random gmail email address, and corporate account emails, all showing pictures where
From within the messaging app, trying to send a new text message (or email from either yahoo or exchange account) = (by clicking the bust with the plus icon) = Only able to see the manually added contacts.
From within the dialer, (phone icon on home screen, and contacts tab = all contacts, w pics, without the random people who’ve emailed me)
From within the gallery, using Set As - Contacts = Only the manually added are visible.
I’m not really clear why this it, but assume it’s due to how Verizon transferred over the contacts. I’m wondering if that info was somehow placed in the wrong location. I’d like to start fresh and wipe and re-enter all my contacts. Doing some searching I see that the ideal way is to export the old Q9M contacts via outlook to CSV, then import them into Gmail. Unfortunately, I wiped the old phone. I may have an old outlook backup but may not. It would be out of date if I did find it.
So, I’m wondering how I can export the current info on the droid x somehow so I can re-add them via gmail... or other suggestions on how I can resolve this.
I searched for "contacts" using Astro and found the following locations:
/etc/motorola/com.motorola.blur.contacts.provider/contacts.xml
/system/etc/motorola/com.motorola.blur.contacts.provider/contacts.xml
/system/app/ContactsUnconnected.apk
/system/app/BlurContactsSync.apk
/system/app/GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk
/system/app/ContactsData.apk
/system/app/WorkContacts.apk
/system/app/ContactsProvider2_0.apk
/system/app/BlurContacts.apk
I’m not sure if these are in anyway excessive, or incorrectly located, so feel free to let me know if your droid x has different ones. (Or I have ones you don't.)
2) Favorites – I seem to be unable (most of the time) to add a favorite when viewing a site horizontally. (Vertically, it works fine.)
3) Gallery- I seem to be missing some of the pictures and videos I took earlier. I have some pics. I don't really understand the organization: Camera Roll and Folders and All photos. (they all contain the same pics (recent, not the video I took of my nephew's 1st bday, for example, which I watched not too long ago.)) I don't know how to create a folder or define a new roll for example. (links helpful... I haven't really searched on this, as I've been focused on the contacts, but just noticed my Gallery problem!)
