Droid X...rooted...now what? anyone? what's so special?

get root explorer if that's what you want to do.. i suggest renaming the files to .apk.bak though instead of deleting them completely.. to upgrade to any OTA's that come, you'll want to put them back before hand and repeat the process after you're done with the OTA upgrade.. you can also try out custom roms and themes now.. look around they're all over.. rom manager is a godsend as well. get droid x bootstrap and rom manager.. read up on them.. can use it to make a complete backup of your phone at a given time and restore it later. i suggest doing so often. you can always delete old backups as well when needed

If I use wireless tether, I have a droid x just rooted today and installed it, is there a cap or can I just use it as much as I want?

If you're on the $29.99 data plan, there is technically not a limit on your usage. However, by using the tethering app, without paying VZW for the 3g mobile hotspot you are in violation of terms and conditions of your agreement. I haven't heard of anyone getting overage charges, or getting cancelled, but just keep in mind it could happen.

bought a wireless adapter to use with wireless thether...cant get it to go over 56mpbs any suggestions?

can't get wireless tether to max my connection. I bought an adapter and it will not go over 56mbps. it's supposed to be able to hit 300 mbps. any suggestions?

Verizon's 3G network will not support those speeds.

The Droid X has the ability to work with draft B and draft G WiFi. You bought a wireless N adapter for your laptop or whatever that is capable of 300 mbps, however, the Droid X is only draft G compatible that I thought was limited to 54 mbps, but apparently yours has 56.

That being said, your connection between the X and the laptop is 56mbps, however, the connection between the X and VZW network is considerably slower.

Here are the links to some of the cool apps that only work if you are rooted:

? ShootMe : Screenshots. Best reason to root.
? AdFree : Ads disappear from apps and Internet. Second best reason to root.
? Titanium Backup : "Freeze" apps without uninstalling. Backup to SDcard. Needs BusyBox.
? MetaMorph Pro - Theme, patch, and mod your phone. Advanced users only. Guide.
? NinjaMorph - Modify apk's right from your phone without ever hooking up a PC. Experts only.
? Wireless Tether For Root Users - Free

Just out of curiosity, what are actual uses for screenshots. I understand the need for it of posting things onto forums like this or maybe e-mailing the image to a friend to show them something, but I just don't get the main draw to it.

Everyone seems to suggest that ShootMe or Drocap2 is the greatest thing ever, but I just don't see it. I know it is just personal preference and I am not trying to sound like an a-hole so please no one take it that way, but what am I missing?

Your missing nothing if you don't get it. It's used for the reasons you listed. You don't need it for those reasons then its not for you. I use it to show shots from roms and themes or tweeks I do. Also good if you want to screen cap a webpage or a tex message.

I use screen caption to help with instructions for situations that the one I am helping cant visually understand... It makes things easier, and it sure makes things easier that plugging into a pc and using SDK screen capture method.
