maybe they will be in random stores, i was expecting a guy in a droid van under a billboard or something

Hmm so they aren't just in random spots but at the actual stores?

This is what I have thought the whole time. Basically I have been searching for Verizon stores near any location that is hinted at. It makes the most sense, and that way, only a manager needs to know about it. Prevents leaks and then they don't have to hide it in a ditch somewhere.

hmm so if they are in stores, how do you get them to give it to you.
also I would assume they are at corporate stores only, going along with the whole preventing leaks thing.
there are only 2 corporate stores in Knoxville, one is by my house and i was actually ate the other one this morning asking questions about the x and what time they opened on the 15th

The clues for 18 still don't make any sense. I-80 doesn't even go through MN.

Droid X designate #18 was last seen near interstate 80. Drivers are advised to stay alert.

Droid experts say some Droid X phones may still be moving. What they don’t know is who will find them.

Perhaps it moved. The MOA clue is pretty specific.

I've never been to mall of America but maybe there is some sort of signage or a store that references "interstate 80", which isn't I-80, technically. Maybe they're trying to pull a fast one?

I-80 is about an 8 hour drive south of the Mall of America. It has been a few years since I have been there, but I don't think there are any highways around there numbered "80". Not sure if there is a shop or something inside with an I80 reference. There might be some interpolation involved with the clues. It also might have just been on the move.

I was searching for designate 13 in a comic book shop near the lake ontario bay in rochester ny, which is accross the lake from canada, and deals with comic books (aka stan lee). Of course the shop was closed, but i didnt think I would find one, just something to do.

Afterwards I figured I'd stop by the verizon corp store and talk to the employees there about the impending launch. To my surprise they had a demo unit in the back. Got to play with it, was cool. That being said, do you guys think all corp stores have them now? Because if they are just showing them to people why would they go to the verizon store in MOA if that store already has a demo unit...

There are two verizon stores in MOA. All of the malls that I've been in have a map of the stores designated with an letter and number....I80, I wonder if this tells us which of the two stores to visit. The online map doesn't show this.

Droid X designate #4 has made it to the capital of the world. It has everything it needs here except a Metrocard.

In response to my own conjecture, droid landings description doesnt really imply testing the device, but getting a device, so probably really is a free phone. That is, unless, it means that next generation of does is droid 2, then that statement is probably meaningless, and this might not be a contest at all, but just a pr tour.

Also, seems that vzfriend and vzoffers are also using hootsuite, but i cant find a motorola employee who does, So possible this is being done exclusively by vzw without motorola. Not particularly useful, but a thought.

Obviously New York City. Wouldn't be surprised if it was at the Verizon building (capital of the world for Verizon?)

EDIT: Further thinking leads me to think maybe it's near the UN since that's kind of like a world capital.

Thats what I thought. Or maybe Los Angeles- which is the entertainment capital of the world. But I could be thinking too hard into it

Yes.

I suspect D.C. as well.

it's nyc, i have a metro card in my hand from when i was there last time. also, nyc is the financial capital of the world, hence the 9/11 nonsense.

that being said, i called quite a few stores here in south florida and was told by one guy down in key west that i should be looking for corporate stores. he wouldn't go much further beyond that so i think that there is something to that thought.

hunt on!

couple interesting tidbits from the rules of the contest:

1. Sweepstakes Period: The Verizon Wireless Droid Scavener Hunt (the "Promotion") begins 12:00:01 Eastern Time ("ET") on July 7, 2010 and ends 11:59:59 ET on July 15, 2010 (the "Promotion Period").

3. How to Participate in the Promotion and Claim a Prize: During the Promotion Period, there will be a Scavenger Hunt, where 21 Certificates for a free Droid Phone will be hidden across the country. Clues as to where the 21 Droid Certificates ("Certificates") will be hidden will be tweeted on a regular basis from @DroidLanding. To view the tweets, visit DroidLanding (DroidLanding) on Twitter. Dates and times of Certificate placement will vary, but the final clue of each GPS location for each Certificate will be tweeted at the time it is hidden. Participants will have 4 hours from the time of the posting of the final clue to find the Certificate and once it is found, follow the instructions on the Certificate to claim their prizes, subject to verification. In the event two (2) or more participants find a Certificate at the exact same time, Sponsor representative will conduct a random drawing from among all those that found the Certificate to determine the winner. Prizes unclaimed within 4 hours from the time of the posting of the final clue will be randomly awarded (in Sponsor representative’s sole discretion) to an eligible person in the vicinity of the hidden Certificate. By participating, you understand, and will agree in writing, that if you find a Certificate or are randomly awarded an unclaimed prize, Sponsor’s representatives will be on site to videotape and/or photograph and record the event, in their sole discretion. Therefore, if you find a Certificate, you hereby grant the Sponsor, its affiliates, subsidiaries, assigns, licensees, and legal representatives the irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide right to use, reproduce, edit, market, store, distribute, have distributed, reproduce, re-arrange, change (including blurring any trademarked items on clothing), add to or delete from, translate, adapt, or otherwise revise and/or alter the video footage, photographs, or material developed ("Footage"), publicly and privately display, communicate, publicly and privately perform, transmit, have transmitted, create derivative works based upon, and promote the Footage, for editorial, commercial or promotional purposes, in their sole discretion.
