DROID X Users: What's Going to be Your Next Phone?

And what magical things would happen if you could get to the bootloader? You can already overclock it, under volt it, get rid of some or all the blur. I might be interested if it would turn it into a jet pack.

It's more the future stuff that matters to me. I want to install stock Gingerbread when it comes out. I'd love to install Cyanogen on the DX, but its not coming to the DX because the bootloaser prevents the Cyanogen kernel tweaks. I want to be able to continue to upgrade my OS when Moto stops supporting the DX. That's what an unlocked bootloader means.

If you're waiting for a jetpack you're out of luck.

We (the rooted ones) had 2.2 quite a while before verizon released the official OTA 2.2. I see no reason why we wont have 2.3 soon after it hits the street. I guess if there were a bunch of phones out there that did a lot more stuff than mine, I might be complaining about the locked bootloader, but this thing does everything I need it to, and then some, as is. Right now I'm getting between 1400 and 1500 quadrant scores.

In my mind (and it's a pretty small one), there are only 2 things coming that will have a significant impact on what's out there...

1. 4G/LTE signal for verizon
2. When dual processors hit the phone market and we start seeing 2 ghz +. The trade off may be a battery that can't possibly make it through a full day.

Until then, I'm guessing the X will stay at the top of the heap.

Not sure. If all the neat phones come out for VZW with Bing $hit installed, I'll just go back to AT&T or Sprint.

I do like the screen real estate but Bing is not an option ever.

I'd probably even go back to an iPhone. We'll see what happens in the next year or so.

Battery technology may be slow to evolve, but I think by the time I'm up or close to my NE2 date battery life on the 2GHz (or whatever they end up being) will be similar to what it is now.

I am curious about the upcoming Blackberry Storm with the new QNX operating system. But at the rate RIM produces new devices, this is a long, long way out. I will definitely take a look when it is released, and compare it to what VZW Android phones are out.

I have a year contract so next july, I'll be able to compare any phone on any carrier. My short list, is to see what apple is doing with an iPhone 5, vzw with droid and wp7 phones and if google is indeed having a nexus s phone.

I like my droidx but I was spoiled with my nexus, as there was no delays in getting updates and it was pure vanilla giving me an empty canvas to customize my phone.

Still, I'm happy with the dx and I can easily see myself with a dx2 or even stick with the dx.

I will be getting a QNX Storm once it's released. Hopefully some point next year. I miss BBM way too much.

How long have you had your Droid X? I missed BBM at first, but not anymore. Can your BBM contacts not get GTalk?

I had a Storm and just...no. It would take A LOT for me to leave Android and go back to BlackBerry.

Dunno, I have at least several months left loving the X. At that point, I will know.

HTC all the way. Whatever aluminum-bodied HTC set with LTE radio. Both the Mecha and Merge look like they will be good options.

After playing with my X and getting working how I want I must admit that I am happy to have it. The browser is the best mobile browser on the planet. Being able to read forums in full desktop mode is awesome. Not to mention sites working like the do on a computer. And my big hands love the landscape keyboard. I still do miss BBM though.

I wouldn't go chasing new phones if you just got an X. However, it sounds like you aren't completely satisfied with your X. If that's the case, should get something that you like. I don't have an X, but I did recently get the D2, and it should suffice for at least another year. I would like to add that, if you continue to get new phones every few months, you won't be able to benefit from the phone's true potential. These devices need to go through the update cycles before they are fully stable. I'm looking forward to seeing my D2 get better and better over the next year or so. Then I will upgrade to something better.

This thread and seeing all of the Droid X love has made me even more excited about getting mine! I have a few days to pace while waiting for it to come in the mail still but its good to see so many people say they wont go out looking for something else. You dont hear that too often in the WebOS world. Personally for me since I havent even held mine in my hands yet I cant say if I love or hate it but I can say as a WebOS user if Palm came out with some amazing slab type device that is about the only thing that might catch my attention. Love BB but not going back any time soon as I just dont really miss it at all like I may miss WebOS. The iphone has never been anything Ive been interested in since I wont go to AT&T but when it gets on Verizon Ill be the first to admit Ill definitely check it out. Will I buy one? Doubt it. Ive used my cousins a few times and wasnt all that impressed but again that will depend on my amount of love for the Droid X when it finally gets here!

Been there too, greydarrah! And I couldn't agree more! I found too much limitation in the BB world. I am completely satisfied and sticking w/ my X for now (my Droid X that is, not my "ex"... I couldn't care less what he does.. hehee!) ;)
I'm anxiously awaiting the new Blackberry OS coupled with Verizon's LTE and the new Playbook. If impressive like I think it will be then thats my next phone. I only do one year contract so I get something new every year.

With a droid you get no Bing;):)

I will be going iPhone as soon as it is released from Verizon even though I just got my X in August. Having just got an iPad I am convinced the Apple stuff is superior. BTW, the iPad makes the X seem like child's play. Of course, it's not a phone...yet.
