Probably can't use it as a gps, because you need a data connection to load the maps. Sorry to be a debby downer. I'll probably use mine mostly as an xbmc remote control.

There are navigation apps that allow you to cache maps, even Google maps is slated to get offline maps. So as long as you cache the maps via wifi, it should work as a gps.

Another upgrading from a DX. I love the phone, but lately some quirks have began to irk me. The headphone jack is a bit faulty, and it makes a difference for me since I use it daily. I have a car with an AUX port, so I hook that up so I can hear my callers through the car. Now, the faulty jack will not work 100% of the time, and callers can't hear me when I answer.

Another is a cosmetic nuisance. The black battery cover is black no more. The material they used to skin the plastic started to come loose, and I just ripped it all off for consistency's sake.

Oh, and I also am joining Droid X owners upgrading to the SGS3! DX served me pretty well, however in the last few months the microphone has randomly (and frequently) gone inoperable, only fix being rebooting, so it has been really tough to use it as a phone reliably.

I hope this is louder than my DroidX - missed a lot of calls with that phone....

Blue 32! Blue Thirty-two! Hike!

Just ordered mine today.

I was just in the pre-ordering process when I called VZ to try to get out of the $30 Upgrade Fee. I couldn't get them to waive it, but I DID get a free month of voice ($40) in exchange for extending my contract by a year.

You know what that means? I'm still locked into my unlimited data until 6/14/13 and it does NOT affect my upgrade date. I can keep my last New Every Two upgrade and wait for the phone to actually release, reviews to post, bugs to be ironed out, and maybe the price to drop a bit. AND I come out $10 ahead. How does THAT suck?

BAM.

When you get your new every two upgrade after 6/28 you will lose your unlimited. You'll only keep your unlimited if you pay full price for the phone.

Thinking through it, that does make sense. Looks like I'm launch-day-ing it like I did with my trusty X. Oh well.

But if you pre-order it BEFORE the 28th you do keep your unlimited. No brainer. Go ahead and order it :)

You can use the phone for GPS only, I used it in Canada for a lake maps application. It worked really well, you don't need cell towers.

I am another one that is switching to the S3, I've loved my X but it seems to be pretty slow lately.

I love my Droid X since it was my girst smart phone. 6 months ago my headphone jack broke and I got no audio. I had to open it up and pull it out (bluetooth only now). My batter started wigging out 2 months ago and I was able to buy a new one for $4. I almost bought a Nexus but was waiting too see if I could hold out for the S3. I thought originally it wouldn't come out until October/November so I can wait until July 9th!

haha wow i didn't know there were so many faithful like myself!
in all honesty though, i've only preordered my s3. if something comes out that is better, (GIVE ME QUADCORE!) then i will switch it out. alot can happen in one month xD

I went from the Blackberry Storm 1 which was my first smart phone if you can call it that to the Droid X. That was a huge upgrade. Personally with watching Twitch and Netflix and what not on my GNex now it is the same level of upgrade. I used to haul my Xoom around because it was just way better then the phone. I have not taken my tablet to work in over a month after getting the Gnex.

Faithful DX user here. It was my first smart phone, too. Couldn't believe how great videos looked on it, and then I started rooting and ROMing - awesome.
Here's the thing about Samsung vs. Motorola: Samsung is traditionally much easier to root. The locked boot-loader is a total pain on Motorola phones. There are ways around it, of course, but give me a more rootable phone any day. Can't wait to get my SIII! :)

I loved my Droid X when it first came out. It was a pretty awesome phone back when it was released. However, I just ordered the wife and me new S3's.

Had to do it to keep my unlimited data, but my X has been dying a slow painful death lately anyway. Super laggy, headphone jack is messed up, charging jack is getting wonky, battery door always falls off, and just recently my screen broke. Not the glass (gorilla glass is increadible) but the liquid crystal leaked in 4 different spots causing black dots that are about the size of a thumtack. I have no idea what I did. I think it got crunched in my pocket while I was helping somebody move some heavy furniture. The screen is so annoying that I am counting down the days till I get the S3 in the mail.

The X was my first Motorola phone and it has taken some pretty serious abuse the last two years. I am excited to try out a different manufacturer and hope that the S3 build quality is better than Moto.

you know its funny, because before the droid x I had a basic phone, so the droid x was my fist smart phone. I was so excited to get it that I even waited in line at the door for an hour. like I said in a previous post I loved it for the first 8 months then problems occured. I said to myself then I was never going to get a new phone until its been out a while so I can see what issues they have. But I didnt listen to myself I preorderd the SIII and I hope I dont regret it. cause with my droid X everytime I go to use it for whatever theres an issue. so once again im excited to get my new phone.. lets hope that feeling lasts

I said the same thing about getting a phone on release day after getting my Droid X but I'm rationalizing because the rest of the world has it. I'm just crossing my fingers that the processor differences don't change things that much from the International version...
