Honestly, I dont think these Droid X'2' pictures are real. First off, someone could just flash gingerbread then take a picture. Big deal. And second, wouldn't Motorola add a front facing camera? I mean, the bionic has one, the Atrix, i'm sure its now going to become a default addition to Motorola smart phones. And I think the speaker would be bigger. And a higher resolution screen also. Thats why i'm calling it fakes.
I wanna hear your opinions. Do you think its real or fake? Explanations, examples, evidence is what I wanna see to convince me otherwise.

Well when the droidx was released it was a top tier cutting edge phone.. it looks like the x2 is going to be at the top of the mid level phones..

I would also like to add the fact that the Motorola Targa is the codename for the Droid X2. Think about it, Large Screen, hump for the camera, HDMI, Same look. Im calling those 'Droid X2, Motorola Targa, Droid 3' pictures actually 'Droid X compared to Droid X2 and Droid 3'

The codename for the X2 was Daytona from a while back. The pictures are more than likely real, since this phone has always been talked about as more of a revamp of the original X. They upgraded the screen to the same qHD as the bionic and a lot of the innards are new. They took away the camera button on the side.

The X2 is like a renovation.

The Targa will be a true successor. It'll be a top of the line device in the same way as the X was.

My take is that Verizon knows they need to allow FFCs on their smartphones (especially since they let the iPhone 4 do it) but they don't really want them to get too rampant too fast since video chat chews up bandwidth, so they probably are discouraging them on all but the top tier phones right now...and the DX2 is not a top tier phone this year.

As for why the refresh? The DX has been one of their best sellers, and with no 4G they can continue to sell them, possibly at a discount (i.e. $150 on contract) while the Bionic will probably hit for like $250.

I think Motorola has another reason to do this - they are betting fairly heavily on getting ahead in the phone/netbook peripheral game. They already said all of their Tegra 2 devices can use them (and the Bionic will be able to sometime after launch...like when their exclusivity contract with AT&T is up after six months). So my guess is this upgrade to the DX2 will make it yet another device that could take advantage of a netbook dock.

I know a lot of people are sort of soured on the idea since the 1.0 version that launched with the Atrix isn't exactly stealing peoples hearts, but it's a solid idea that will probably help eat into netbook and laptop sales after a couple of revisions. So updating as much of their lineup as possible to be able to use them is a smart move for Motorola...in fact, I'd even guess there might be more than the usual "early upgrade" offers to be had for original DX owner in early fall, just to try and upsell more people into the Moto/netbook dock ecosystem.

Think of what RIM is going. Minor upgrades between devices. 9700 > 9780 is minor differences, 9530 > 9550 has a big difference in screen but overall, nothing too major, 9530 and 9560 has minor differences.

DX to DX2 has minor differences. Well compared to RIM, big differences like single core to dual core processor but to the normal user, minor differences.

Disagree, the original "X" was supposed to be top tier (according to hype) but real world performance said otherwise.:(

Hopefully the DX-2 will be a real cutting edge performer but don't hold your breath.

1. If they were fake, we wouldn't have posted them. :p

2. Explain where the camera button went.

The X2 is real and will have enough upgrades(albeit minor to some, major to others) to consider itself a top tier device and call itself a successor to the OGX simply because it is the next in line of that build to compete with the Bionic, Atrix etc. Just because a new device doesn't have what you want, doesn't make it fake.

I think my X(purchased early 2011) can go round for round with any of the current leaders in the market matching stats. There is yet to be something I cannot do that I have tried. I have put it thru the ringer and it is still scoring Quadrants of 1500-1700. It will be interesting to see for me how well the X2 sells and how much more life our X's will still have dev wise. Ok Im done.

Alright, alright. The Quadrant picture convinced me otherwise. Now all im praying for is a Front camera, a more advanced rear camera (maybe 10mp), a better NOTIFICATION LIGHT motorola. not just red blue green. and 768mb+ of ram.

Well you can fix the light right now...download Light Flow! Awesome app.

I have light flow. I meant it cant do some good colors (orange, yellow, white, pink, etc.)
Its limited to forms of blue, regular red, light & dark green, purple, and thats maybe it.

Ah...well I've gotten white out of it and orange results in a kind of brown. But I know what you are saying.

I have been reading up on the specs around here and the net, Tegra2 @ 1.2Ghz is great, but is the RAM really 1GB or 768MB? What is the internal memory for storage, or did they play the same game HTC & Verizon did with the ThunderBolt and claim 8GB and delivery 2.3GB, rumors say their is really only 4GB in their but I am not about to rip mine open. 3G vs 4G, not concerned I would prefer to have a battery actually last than carry extra's or have a hump on the back.

Let's hope Motorola is not following RIM's failed plan. This is a time for innovation not playing it safe. That is what got RIM in trouble. They stopped pushing the boundaries and instead release the same phone with a minor physical changes.

How can a phone be called a minor update when the processor goes from a TI OMAP => NVIDIA Tegra 2 Dual Core, the screen goes from 480*854 => qHD 540*960, they did bump the memory from 512MB => 768MB (1GB in some reports)? Is it just because they only took the camera button off and the shell looks the same?

To me what matters is the power of the device, not the shell, that is cosmetic not performance related.
