Dropped my HTC One

On NYE I had a guest that dropped her iPhone with an otterbox case from her pocket to my hardwood floor. The screen smashed into a million pieces. Case or not, it just depends how it lands. It happens, sucks when it does but it happens.

Since when did a case cover the screen? If I dropped my htc, or any phone really, face first onto a rock it's going to shatter the screen. Why are you trying to justify your plastic when this is a question of glass?

True, if it's a rock. If you drop it on the sidewalk or the floor or something then it almost certainly will protect the screen. Even a very thin case will keep the screen from being the point of impact. I've dropped my devices screen down numerous times from much higher with cases on and (knock on wood) I have yet to break a screen.

Ouch! Sorry this happened.

I find the otterbox commuter to be a good case. It doesn't add too much bulk. I go naked most of the time though. Only use the otterbox when I go hiking, running, or mountain biking.

Good luck with your next one! :-)

For HTC One, I think Insurance is a MUST have!

If you're on a 3yr contract w/o insurance and your phone breaks/malfunctions after a year (No more manufacturer's warranty), too bad!

Yep. Happens all the time. And I find if I have a case I am much less careful and more likely to drop

Ouch. The way the OP's device looks now is why I bought the Seidio Surface Case from here when I got mine. Yeah, the phone is awesome looking by itself, but at least with the case, it still looks good and is a bit more protected (not totally, but a bit). Like the previous poser said (not even going to TRY and copy that name ;) ) a case won't stop everything and people tend to be a tad less careful. I've always been really anal about my electronics so I'm careful - case or not. <looks around for wood to knock on>

Since the day u don't research on different type of cases lol... even the least protective one with the right rubber, it helps absorb impact thus a lesser of a chance for screen damage.

Case or not, you might want to have your keyboard checked; it seems to be sticking a bit.

Nahhh keyboard is good, I got Kii keyboard ;)

I just like to touch the metal to rubber subject a lot. Actually, I'll probably open up a thread to see how many ppl are rocking their new metal phone with a rubber case! Or maybe in a month or so when it gets worse lololololololol :cool:;)

I have a commuter case on my atrix. It fell off my computer stand into hardwood floor and cracked the corner. Case means nothing. if it's gonna break it's gonna break. Insurance is the answer

Good thing you have insurance. Be more care on you next One.

I learned not to put my phone on my lap, dropped my first Bold 9000 when I got out of my car. Thankfully it was just a chip on the corner.

This. After doing this multiple times I finally learned not to put my phone on my lap when in the car.

I don't know about that. If something hits my screen, or my screen hits it, no sort of surrounding plastic shock absorber is going to protect that area. I understand cases can help because of that extra bit it gives you in the front, but if it lands on anything higher than that then the screen is toast.

Maybe because most drops aren't face-first onto a rock? I would bet most drops are onto relatively flast surfaces. If you drop your phone and it hits on the back, or on a corner, a soft case may well absorb enough impact to prevent the screen from shattering. Any most cases do extend a bit past the screen on the front, so if the phone lands face down on a flat surface the case will probably keep the screen from directly impacting the ground. Clearly, a case won't protect against every impact, but it can protect against many.

And clearly a rugged aluminum monobloc chassis doesn't absorb shock better than a soft plastic case.

If it's gonna break it's gonna break. Insurance is the answer

The problem with that is that with insurance premiums and deductibles where they are now, you may be paying for the phone twice anyway.

Glad you like that case haha. I bought that too as I love Seidio cases, and now it won't come off my phone. Seidio thinks I have a defective case, but nothing I can do to remove it from the phone without risking damage. They sent me a free active case but it doesn't do me any good.

Good thing I'm sending the phone back to Sprint for SIM card issues. It is their problem now.

If you get BB insurance there's no deductible
