Dropped my HTC One

Good thing you have insurance. Be more care on you next One.

I learned not to put my phone on my lap, dropped my first Bold 9000 when I got out of my car. Thankfully it was just a chip on the corner.

My Blackberry fell off my lap and onto the concrete when getting out of a car....didn't break but I tried to do that less often. I did it again with my Hero and since it didn't break, I vowed I would not put another phone on my lap while driving again.

I have seen the breakdown video on this, replacing this screen is tough. Just might be that they replace the phone altogether.

Have to pay excess plus 12 months of insurance, will work out at about ?80.

Excess plus 12 months of insurance? Wtf? What a rip off!I am disgusted, insurance companies are such a rip off.

Eta: my s3 fell about 15 inches out my shirt pocket and shattered the screen. It's all down to how it lands. I threw my phone out my hands once and it was fine!

Since when did a case cover the screen? If I dropped my htc, or any phone really, face first onto a rock it's going to shatter the screen. Why are you trying to justify your plastic when this is a question of glass?

Actually Sir, a case, whether plastic or rubber will distribute force of impact easier. OP did not state if the phone landed on glass out hit corner first. Either way, a case would distribute the force more evenly and protect from a break. P.S. I have dropped my nexus multiple times on edge with a case, no breaks. One time without the case on, edge hit, shattered screen. My experience proves you wrong, sorry.

I don't know about that. If something hits my screen, or my screen hits it, no sort of surrounding plastic shock absorber is going to protect that area. I understand cases can help because of that extra bit it gives you in the front, but if it lands on anything higher than that then the screen is toast.
But then your screen would be toast anyways. At least with a case you have better odds. In any case, have fun with your scarred phone.

Hmm. So glass still scratches and/or shatters when met with materials and/or forces harder/greater than itself?! Who'da thunk it?!

Bummer OP!

Actually Sir, I've dropped evos and notes many times without cases without doing more damage than a minor scuff. Your experiences are nothing scientific. All you're proving is you can drop a phone without breaking it and you can drop a phone and break it.

my phone fell off my lap today onto a hardwood floor and theres a deep gash on the back. it would happen a few days before my full body skin arrives.
