I dropped my phone and the edges and screen are cracked. I never drop my phones. Now I'm out $200. :(

Gorilla glass is very hard making it almost impossible to scratch. Because it's so hard, it's also brittle which means it's going to break when impacted upon.

They could make a glass that was so soft that it wouldn't break if you dropped it, but the tradeoff would be that it would scratch if you looked at it wrong.

From what I'm seeing on Google, gorilla glass is supposed to be harder to break and harder to scratch.

Of course, this doesn't mean it is impossible to break or scratch.

As per Corning:

CAN I BREAK GORILLA GLASS?
If subjected to enough abuse, Gorilla Glass can break. However, Gorilla Glass is better able to survive the real-world events that most commonly cause glass to scratch, chip, or break.

Of course if you drop your phone and it lands wrong then all bets are off.

Call and get insurance if you don't already have it. Then the next day or whenever file a claim for a new phone, if you can do it that soon.

I think the lack of a bezel is HUGE with this. No bezel to soak up the impact on a corner and it flexes and cracks. I am getting a case, to strengthen this thing up.

That's part of the reason bezels exist, with the other being to prevent accidental touches on the sides. I'd be interested to know how close to the edge the screen hardware is.

Yeah, let's commit fraud......then cry when the rates and deductibles go up.

I'm sorry, but if you weren't smart enough to buy the insurance before hand or put in in a case or even careful enough not to drop it, I hate it for you. I understand that's why they are called accidents, but damn......piss poor to even recommend to add insurance after the fact.

No case. It's in the mail from Verizon. I already had one on but the holes didn't line up. Like I said I'm pretty careful with my phones.

Same here. Mine slipped out my pocket while I was sitting down on the backyard patio. After watching the videos on YouTube, I thought it could resist this. Have insurance and received my new one 3 days later.

Glass is glass, why are you surprised? Gorilla glass, is better than other glass covered screens, but it's still glass and glass cracks.

Yep. Kind of like finding out you have a life-threatening disease and then trying to buy health insurance...

I can't tell if your being sarcastic or not, but clearly the rational decision in your hypothetical situation is to go get health insurance ethical or not. The phone on the other hand is not life or death. Not a comparable situation.
