Green Screen of Death.

Welp. My Pixel 8 display finally bit the dust the other day. I was periodically getting the green screen problem but it would only last a few seconds then go back to normal.

Now the phone is in full green screen on boot up and then has a solid vertical pink line with some odd things very similar to this guys phone:

Google extended the warranty on the display as this is a common issue with the Pixel 8, so luckily mine is eligible and will be repaired at no cost to me. I'm currently using my old Pixel 6 and have come to the realization that I like the Pixel 6 better

Once I have the Pixel 8 repaired I'll probably give it to a family member and use my Pixel 6 until the Pixel 10 series is released.

Anyone else have this issue?

Years ago I bought a Google Pixel 5, direct from Google. This was just as they discontinued the Pixel 5 and launched the Pixel 5a. I was taken aback by how quickly Google dropped the P5 and distanced themselves from it, removing all traces from their website. It developed the same screen problem pictured above - the purple line the length of the screen - signifying a fatal hardware flaw. Google was great about a return/replacement until they couldn't find another new one to send me. How can they not have a single Pixel 5 left?? So I asked for and got a full refund. I had to argue with them about NOT hitting me with a "restocking" charge and refunding my device protection charge, but in the end I got back every penny.

I don't blame the CS reps with whom I spoke. Truthfully, they were aces and definitely on my side. But Google tied their hands as far as what they could offer and what they could arrange in one call. Once I got the full refund I went to Swappa and picked up a used/mint Pixel 5 that is still working flawlessly today. I absolutely love the P5 geometry - size, weight, shape - and the fabric case that was a Pixel 5 exclusive is my favorite case ever. I wish this case was available for iPhones, which are mostly what I'm using right now. But I go back and forth, plus family members use the P5 when traveling overseas.

I think the issue only affected the regular Pixel 8. It was so common Google actually extended the warranty on the display to three years after the purchase date.

I had that issue four times when I had the Pixel 7 pro. I've had my 8 Pro for over a year and it's been fine so far. But I'm curious about what the pixel 10 is going to be like.

Sorry to hear about your green screen. It's so frustrating. I've been there!
