Dual Sim constantly asks which Sim to use even though contact is set to use specific sim

[Android Central Question]

Phone: Pixel 4XL

Dual Sim: Sim and ESim

Dual Sim setting: Set to always ask for calls

Contact setting: Calling Sim set to specific sim

When I search for a contact to call or select a call from my call history I am always asked which Sim to use. However if I find the contact in my contact list and call from there it will call using the preferred Sim.

Does anyone else see this behavior? Any ideas?

Try setting Dual SIM to Set to specific, and make sure you set the specific SIM as the one you want to use for calls to people not in your contact list. (You can't have both specific and ask at the same time - the phone wouldn't know which way to go.)
