Dumping the S5 for the Note 4 - Am I alone?

I bought the S5 about two weeks ago and I love it. The Note series are way too big for my liking. The size of the S5 is the biggest I'll ever go when it comes to phones. I don't need a new phone every single time one comes out so I keep my phone for two years and get a new one when my contract ends if I wish to. And I agree, those "Jump" (T-Mobile), Edge (Verizon), and Next (AT&T) programs are a true rip-off. They tried to get me to sign up for it and I rejected them completely. It's a way for them to get more money out of us. I actually save a lot more by being on a 2 year contract. I'm not falling for their trick, I know how companies work. They make it seem like it's a worthy program, when in reality, they're just cheating you of your money.
Actually for T-Mobile you never actually have a contract. Once you pay off the phone you can leave at any time.

I have a case on it and the back cover still creaks. That's why I'm annoyed by it more than anything. Maybe I need a new battery cover.

Samsung Galaxy S5 (Verizon)

Yeah I have the same problem
Holding it normally it doesn't really cause any issues, but it does make the phone feel and sound cheap

Mines a little worse than that but yes it does make it feel cheap. I'm so OCD about creaks whether my car or phones its got to be an illness. I just can't stand it and expect my devices not to creak unless I am strangling it tightly. ;)

I know why this happens too. There are several points on the back cover that have a larger gap between the next clip. Those are the general areas the wireless and wired covers can creak.

I'll live with it because there's nothing I can do. I may ditch the S5 for what appears to be superior Droid Turbo if its built well. For once Big Red may have the best phone on the market (IMO).

I spent a fair amount of time with the Note 4 at Best Buy when they placed the demo model out and it's an outstanding phon, it's insanely (really, insanely) fast and absolutely stunning IMO. I felt tempted to hold off upgrading and wait for its release but it's just so big to me... Which is a good thing and bad. There's no way I would want it with me while snowboarding or hiking/etc. so I opted for the S5 and so far I dig it. Screen size almost feels too big at times for me but overall it's a huge improvement over my iPhone 5.

I considered getting the note 4,
Love the specs, but I think it's just too big
I think I'm going to get the Sony xperia z3, but I'm also thinking about the iPhone 6

The new iPhone is a great phone but everyone I've talked to that at least cares about tech even a little has said it's basically an iPhone 5s with a larger screen and that's about it. The speed and fluidity of ios 8 on it is very quick as the last couple phones have been with the newest software on each new release, but there's still things that kind of let me down on its release and convinced me to jump ship from iOS recently. The camera is great, and Apple is smart to include DSLR photos on the camera roll on the demo models to make the average consumer believe they're actually going to get that high quality of an edited image directly from the camera. It's a great camera for sure, but it's a better marketing strategy :)
I just felt like Apple didn't do a whole lot to make me want the iPhone 6 over my 5. Physically it just doesn't appeal to me either. I've been a loyal iPhone user for 5.5 years, but it was time to jump ship.

Being locked down to a normal, unjailbroken iOS was what ultimately drove me away from Apple. I could've stuck with my iPhone 5 with jailbroken iOS 7 but what's the fun in that :p

The jump program is included in the insurance on my plan, so really it is worth it to me. I might make the jump from the M8 to the Note 4. Just love the option to switch phones. The jump program is the same cost I was spending just for insurance on Verizon.

THIS!!

My bill on TMo, including Jump, isn't even close to what I was paying on Verizon... and I could only upgrade every two years with them. I'll take the TMo plan anyday!

Verizon is a complete rip off. T-mobile is a little bit less of a rip off. At the end they both are bad.

Personally, i can't really see what the note 4 offers over the S5 that would make me want to swap. Yes it has a QHD screen, but look at the one your S5! Are you telling me that isn't sharp enough? There is the s-pen of course. If you are an artist then this could be really useful, with its increase in sensitivity. But it's not a deal breaker for me personally, I had a note 3 and gave it to my gf.
And as has already been pointed out, no usb3 or, the most important point for me, no waterproofing. I have been caught in a downpour twice this week alone, and waterproofing was a godsend.
Improved performance? Certainly, but I think my S5 is really fast, not a problem for me at all.
Does the note have ois? If it does, that would be really nice, although I haven't really had a problem in that respect with the S5 yet.

The note 4 is a really gorgeous device, and if I needed to update my phone it would be the one I would get probably, but right now no way.

I had a G3 for a few weeks (QHD) and I wasn't really wowed by the screen. Maybe it's because I prefer Amoled screens but the G3 screen just looks so washed out compared to what I'm used to. And there really isn't any 4K content out either..

Yes, amoled is just so gorgeous. Mind you, a QHD amoled screen is going to be amazing!

I was the same, except I only kept the G3 for 2 days before exchanging it for the S5.

I think it might be a specific issue with the G3 screen, however as you say I also prefer amoled.

I think the Note 4 will be the best all around phone as far as specs and build quality. However the G3 was a little to big for me to want to use on a daily basis so I couldn't see how the N4 would be any different. It will be a beast of a phone if you can deal with a phone that big. It's great for movies and games but I would say I spend about 5-10% tops using my phone for those things. For the other 90% of stuff I use my phone for it would just be to unwieldy..

I am kind of expecting HTC to abandon the whole ultra pixel strategy. It clearly is not working. The HTC One camera is the weakest part of the phone.

I don't think they will abandon it. It's a great idea, and holds many advantages; compared to the S5 it's super fast opening and capturing, and it can shoot better low light pictures.
If HTC could build an 8up camera, it would be brilliant. Err, a bit like the one in the new iPhone... Which is now top of the dxo ratings...

As a former note 1 and Note 3 owner I agree it can get really unwieldy. I really want to get the note 4, however at the same time I've been enjoying the S5 because it is so easy to hold and use. I'm a girl and have small hands.

I really like the Note 4 specs, look etc... and am very interested in seeing the Edge. I went from a Note 2 (which I absolutely loved) to the S5 which it took me awhile, but I now love! The reasons I won't be switching is

1. Waterproof is awesome
2. Usb 3.0 rapid charging is great
3. A 5.1 inch screen is alot easier to fit in pockets, hold in 1 hand without developing tendinitis, fit in car holder's and desk stands etc... Then a 5.7 inch phone.

The GN4 is poised to be the best big phone on the market as all its predecessors were. I just think the S5 has everything I need right now.

My back has never creaked with or without a case.

I don't think I'm going for the Note 4 - nothing really stands out for me but I am bored with the S5. I have my eye on the Droid Turbo though so I'll see once it's announced.

I'm dumping my S5 into my nightstand drawer for the Note 4. I do a lot of outdoor stuff so I will switch the sim when I go and take the waterproof S5. How can I afford the new phones every 6 months? I have an 8 year old laptop, a small plasma TV, and really only spend my tech money on phones. It's what I choose to buy. I don't spend money at Starbucks, I save what I would have $3 to $5 a day and buy phones. Oh ya I drive a 1999 truck so I have no car payment either.
