Duplicate txt notification

I have been getting duplicate notifications for my incoming txts and it used to be 3, but I have since turned off the notification for the Messaging App. I am using Handcent SMS so that is obviously playing a notification. It must be another app doing so as well. Can I consolidate this kind of behavior. I'm sorry guys, I'm just really new to this Android business and the learning curve is overwhelming, but Awesome!

Here are the apps on my phone if it helps figure out the issue.

I'm actually getting two notifications and duplicate SMS messages in Handcent. The strange thing is the date and time stamp are different on the identical messages like they are from two different timezones.

I'm using 2.2 OTA, deodexed, rooted, and running the Gala X theme. I haven't been able to figure out how to stop it.

Yea i did get a duplicate message from a message blast someone had me on. I got one from the current time and on in the future. So I can understand what you are going through. But it's just annoying to hear two notifications when I receive only one message.

Are you getting a notification from the stock text messaging app and one from Handcent? If so, you need to turn off the notifications for one of them.

No. I know about disabling notifications in the stock app, that's not the problem. I'm getting two messages and notifications in Handcent. I get a pop up window from Handcent, then I reply, and I still have one uncleared Handcent notification in the status bar and a duplicate message in Handcent.

Uninstalled and reinstalled Handcent. Still getting duplicate messages with different time and date stamps with identical minute, different hour.

Started happening for me when I flashed Gala X. Go to the ROM subsection and look at a thread called "Problem Flashing Gala X Rom"....there is a potential answer in there that I haven't been able to try yet.

I don't have Gala X and i only got that duplicate message once. So i'm just going to try and figure out what is causing the dual sound notifications

If you mean the one suggesting to delete/rename mms.apk I'm testing it out now. Renaming the mms.apk to mms.bak seems to have solved the duplicate sms issue. I'm just worried that I won't be able to send/receive picture messages. Testing now.

Confirmed, renaming the mms.apk does solve the duplicate sms problem with the Gala X theme/rom; however, it seems to break ability to send/receive picture messages.

Might have to load up something else.

This was driving me crazy too, only problem is I am stock and not running Handcent. Turns out I installed the Beautiful Widgets: Pack 2 last night (was in my list of prior purchases). Had to add the Beautiful SMS widget and turn off notifications. I remembered this being a problem for me sometime ago on another handset... Not sure if that's your problem, but it fixed mine.

I'm not using Beautiful Widgets.

I went back to the Black Bar theme and the duplicate notifications in Handcent went away. MMS picture messaging is working fine as well. Something about the Gala X theme I guess.

I think I found out the problem with my original post. I uninstalled Ringleader Lite and it seems to only ring once per txt... so that solved my problem

I updated to the most recent Gala X version, renamed the Mms.apk to Mms.bak and don't have the duplicate text problem. Still need to test the picture messaging though.
