Can anyone comment on whether the headphone jack on the X2 is improved over the DX? The DX headphone jack emits an annoying hissing sound when you have headphones plugged in. I'm wondering if this was fixed in the DX2 or not?

Can't say I have any issues with the headphone jack on my X2. It works fine & has nice clear audio reproduction.

Crazy Idea...but first I have to ask does this happen all the time, i mean is the hissing ever not been a problem? I've noticed that i have a pair of head phones that after going though the wash, the plastic came out rough and whenever they rubbed again my clothes (even just against my shirt) then liked to build up lost of static charge. Usually ended up with a nice shock inside my ear...first time it happened I thought my mp3 player shorted out or something. So crazy idea, maybe static is building up in the phone or headphones? I only suggest this cause my headphone jack works fine too.

Well I'm speaking of the original Droid X, not the X2. I have read others noting a hissing sounds on the original X. I have a nice pair of headphones that work flawlessly on everything else, except with my Droid X. It's just an annoyance is all.

I was asking whether this flaw is present on the X2 because I am considering upgrading to it in the somewhat near future. But, if this same hissing exists with the headphone jack on the X2 it might dissuade me from getting it.

I like to use my phone and headphones at work and would like the clear sound I know my headphones produce.

Thanks for the input from those of you with an X2.

I first got the DX2 5 moths ago. The jack was fine for a week or two, then began progressively getting worse- any movement of the plug at all would cut the sound off or switch it to the droid's speaker instead of the headphones, or even worse, automatically dial phone numbers. I finally got a replacement DX2 about a month ago. Same deal. It was great at first, then starts acting up. Can't run with it because it will not stay on. Driving me crazy. With this one exception, I love this phone. But this is a major problem. Wish I'd gotten something else.

I have no problems with the headphone jack. I have had the phone for five months now and have never noticed a hissing. When plugged into the AUX jack in my car with no music playing, it makes a weird noise, not really sure what that is. But, when music is playing in my car through the AUX or using headphones, it sounds great and there is no hissing at all.

The headphone jack is not a line level output, its actually amplified to power headphones. This amplification is the distortion you are hearing when hooking it to a car stereo. As far as the droid x2, I have really sensitive headphones (custom molded in ear monitors) and have noticed no hissing with it.

No problems with mine here. I use my headphones on a daily basis at work & have never noticed any distortion or hissing at all. I've also got a really good, sensitive pair of earbuds that I use.
