Early S6 users, how's your battery life?

It's a Lollipop issue. My Nexus 5 would lose 11% overnight. Once Google pushed out the 5.1 update my Nexus was back to losing 2-3% overnight. It was a noticeable difference.

Sent from my Galaxy S6

oh wow, i didn't realize 5.1 fixed it ... got used to powering off at night when they charge and never checked after the update.

i'm surprised it took this long for me to hear about it ... this is a huge deal (at least for me, and i'm sure a lot others)

thanks bud!

Almost 4hrs screen on time, 1hr of listening to Google music with Bluetooth headphones, downloaded 3 apps, Web browsing, received min 100 text between all my messaging apps, 3 phone calls totalling 15 min, while mostly having no wifi and 1 bar of 3g service in my office.

Who cares if the phone can charge quickly. Standby and actually usage battery life is more important. So your phone can charge in a half hour but you are in the park and your phone is already dead with no wall sockets anywhere to plug it in. Thin and removable battery's are the worse for phones. I don't care if the phone is 1mm smaller. Give me a phone that can last the day.

I'd prefer that as well. However they even make quick charging external battery packs now. They are still limited but I bet will be more in the future. Having a small 3000mAh that can easily fit in your pocket and isn't much bigger than a spare battery that can charge your phone from 0-100 in an hour isn't bad.

Dumbest.
Statement.
Ever.

Not.
Necessarily.
So.

Ok, in itself, it's fairly banal as a comment, but fast charging has begun to become an excuse for not putting a decent battery in a phone. Maybe that was more the point?

FC is great, but not at the expense of batteries being naff. Yes, you can get 50% out of a 50 min. charge (or whatever), or carry a charging pack, but mobile devices are mobile, and, as such should really give you at least 14-16 hours under average usage at least. What's annoying is that it can be done, and not just in big fat phones. The Xperia range does it, as does the Galaxy Note 4. Sammy just went OTT on design, and shaved so much off that there was almost no room left for a battery of any note. 1.5mm thicker or so, 3000+ mah battery, and no sticky-out camera lens... surely?

Maybe but it's still a dumb thing to say. Frankly, EVERYONE cares if a phone can charge quickly, no one's going to put up with plugging in an trickle-charging all the time.

As it was posted in an S6 post, I'm fairly sure it was genuine, 2015 fast-charging v 'Normal' charging of recent times. What you refer to is the old style of charging v USB via PC charging or similar. Personally, I'm happy with my Z3 charging in 2.5hrs overnight as opposed to half that or less like the S6 - but than, it won't die by 4pm, so it's of no concern anyway.

Well I'm not to worried, I expect 4hrs onscreen time with any current phone and I'm ok with it for now. As a power user, I'm already pretty savvy with my battery, power saving techniques ( black wallpaper, using the mobile web for shopping sites and social media vs the apps which constantly pinging your battery randomly, turning off unnecessary syncing items, etc.. )

I have a very good 2.0 amp 10000 milliamp hour battery bank that I carry with me, I have ordered two Wireless chargers, I have a 2.0 amp car charger and multiple wire chargers if need be.

If you're out somewhere and the phone is going dead thats what the power saving options are for. Ultra power saving mode was made just for that specific reason. Also most people arent away from some type of power source for more than 12 hours straight. And to say who cares about quick charging is silly because if you're on the go alot you may only have 20-30 minutes to charge your phone. Just this past week alone the fast charging came in handy a few times.

Back when I was dumb I always thought battery life would be ridiculously good by now. Always envisioned by this year we would have 24 hour battery life with actual usage. But I understand battery tech is what it is.
But I feel like manufacturers sort of gave up. Especially in favor of crazy screens and features that might hurt the battery a bit. Basically like "well, we sure as hell ain't getting anywhere with battery life but lets make sure these sons of b**ches charge fast and make it convenient with throwing both wireless charging standards in there"

I have pretty much accepted long ago that I have to carry around a charger or battery pack. Make sure I have one at work and in every room, spare in the car.

It's a double edged sword. Sure they could potentially make a more powerful, longer lasting super battery that most users would love, however there they run the risk of the small percentage of cases where Murphy's law takes hold and you end up with a device that spontaneously combusts, and it comes with a stigma of being "that device" that starts fires because the battery is too powerful. I think they took the lesser of two evils approach and just went with the safer route, yeah users may have to throw it on a charger in the middle of the day but it's better than having a fire in your pocket.

Well battery life seems to be improving as the battery adjusts to use maybe? 4hrs on screen time and 50% battery left!!

Yeah it seems to be getting better for sure. It was at 100% at 10:30 AM and now at about 11:30 PM it's at about 25% with 4 hours screen on time.

Forgive me but I'm having a hard time guaging these battery stats. So you have used half the battery in 5 1/2 hours? Were you really on screen for 4 hrs? What are you guys doing that you are on screen for 4 hrs? My average screen on time is like an hour a day. How do you have time to spend 4 hrs a day on the phone? Maybe I'm just a light user.

I'm a power user and this is a new phone. So it happens. But if you only use 1hr a day screen time this phone will probably last you 24hrs!

Update on my stats.

Pretty consistent with what I've been experiencing. Had mine since Monday. 4 hours SOT on first full charge. Has only improved since. Averaging 4 hr 51 min SOT now according to GSAM. I pulled 5 hours 20 min SOT today but forgot to screenshot before plugging up to pc to move some music over. That's up there near Note 4 territory with a smaller battery. I understand the TMO variant may have some software related issues that should be fixed but I'm not seeing how others are having an issue with the battery unless they are expecting it to be better than a Note 4 or 6 plus which is unrealistic.
