Easy Tether or something Else?

I have seen a little talk about a "dummy tether module". Bit I am still a little confused as to what it is. I have just flashed to SC 2.9.2 and I currently use Easy Tether as my internet connection to my latop. Is there some other way I should be connecting using this "dummy tether module"?

The dummy tether is put in the kernel because those in the know believe that VZW had coded a tethering watchdog into the leaked kernel for 2.2, so anyone using that kernel abd tethering could potentially be found out and subsequently charged. The dummy tether prevents this, but it is still "use at your own risk"
